Hi all - has anyone fitted one of these to their Bus?? Considering doing this in my new one (79) but just asking whether anyone has had problems with leaking seals etc... Cheers B
we've fitted one from here: http://www.creative-engineering.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage-ask.tpl&product_id=79&category_id=74&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26 It looks the business and will be lovely in the summer (if we ever have one :) Unfortunately the van hasn't left the garage since it's been fitted so I can't say how waterproof it is, fingers crossed we'll get to test it soon
I've got front safaris fitted to my split screen, the original seal leaked like a sieve bought a set of decent seals from Butty on the ssvc and I've had no leaks since even been out in some crap weather. Give him a shout he might do some for the rears.
Ask any manufacturer if they can give you a guarantee that the window won't leak. They can't. They leak.
i fitted the bluebird one about this time last year camped in all weathers in the summer with no problems but i did run a bead of clear sclicone along the top edge
The installation was featured a few years ago, in one of the past issues of Volkswagen Camper & Commercial magazine. Don't drive with a rear safari window open, as you are likely to get exhaust fumes coming into the vehicle. One disadvantage of the rear safari window, is that it is incompatible with having a rear-window wiper, as retro-fitted in 1990, to my 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental campervan. ;D
Then change the rear wiper to one off a crv or freelander with opening rear screens, they park off the glass onto a stop on the door
creative safari's defo leak with stock seals i have to drive with towels on the dash when it rains in my split as rustydriver says you need upgrade seals to stop them leaking on a split but to be fair shouldnt be so much of a problem at the rear as you dont have the presure pushing on them but why would you want to fit something 1,you cant open when driving 2, is potentially a water leak into the van? 3, other than looking cool when parked is pointless?
why not make some sort of tailgate standoff up like the germans have on there t25 and t4's i used to have one i made for old my t25 there ace as you can leave the rear hatch open about a 1" for ventilation at night or on hot days but the hatch is still locked from the outside so nothing can get stolen. only thing you would need to mod to stricker plate slightly to get the stand of to hook in some how
