  1. After our last jaunt to the new forest and the airbed going down at 3 in the morning, I want to get something that is above all comfortable and well made.Ive done the £20 doubles from go outdoors but find them not too comfy. Anybody got any personal recommendations?

  2. lola allegedly very comfy

oh sorry misread the title :-[

  3. About 15 cans of carling and everywhere is comfy ;-) ;-)

  4. Air beds are Marmitee for camping you need a self inflating mat give me a min and ill get you a link to a good bit of kit

  6. Wow, never considered the mats. How comfortable are they? They don't look it but looks can be decieving. Can you get doubles?

  7. Blow up air beds make you colder as convection currents start up inside
The bottoms touching the cold floor and the top is heated by your body so air starts taking your body heat away

You wont go wrong with any of the alpkit range its tried and tested kit that squaddies pay for out of there own pocket instead of using issued kit

  8. You can buy doubles im not sure alpkit do them though

They are lots more comfy than they look

Top tip the first few times you use them is to give them a few breaths to help them along and when there at home store them inflated and the valve closed

  11. When you say you need to insulate yourself from below, does this mean they arent suitable for putting straight onto a groundsheet? Was just thinking of just putting them on the floor, then a sheet, then a quilt.

  13. A self inflating mat is perfect layed on top of the ground sheet

I occasionaly use mine half inflated when camping in a hammock
Because im swinging from two trees the wind blows under you
A sleeping bag gets very compressed on the underside in a hammock so doesent loft up and insulate you properly so the wind takes your body heat away
Pop in the half inflated mat and im toasty warm

If im ground dwelling i use a goretex bivvy bag with a fully inflated mat inside and a sleeping bag on top and a tarp strung out over me to keep any rain off

I sleep more comfortable when im in the woods than when i sleep at home in a king size bed with memory foam matteress

  14. Ok, I like the cut of your jib guys and I will try and find somewhere local I can try these out.Thankyou.

  15. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/camping/sleeping-mats

There should be a store near you
Remember though when there brand new they need a few breaths to get them on there way inflating
If you try one when its not fully inflated straight out of the packet you will get the wrong impression
Mine seems to have gotten better with age

  16. Aldi had them in a few weeks back, so it may be worth a look to see if they are still there.

I had 4 of theirs at £7 each 5 years ago and we are still using them.

They are comfier than they look!

  17. we use the Thermarest base camp or is it luxury ones ... but whilst they are very comfortable :) be warnned they're rather expensive :( . As far as I know they dont do a double but you can get a joining kit (in effect a couple of tapes that go round both - somehow (we've never used our joining kit!)).

  18. So if i'm right, it just replaces the matress. I can just put a sheet on top and i'm ready to go. Don't really do sleeping bags as I cant seem to move much in them. Just want a sheet and a quilt and me in the middle with the mr's.

  19. Sheet? - How posh are you!

Yes, there's no need for anything underneath ( or on top if you're using a sleeping bag)
