Hi guys new poster here looking for some possible advice regarding the repair panels for the roof , I've bought some Schofields gutter and roof repair panels the high ones and the box section repair too all went swimmingly with the box section but upon checking to see how flat and straight everything was I noticed almost a hump where the c pillar hits the roof section, thought I'd check the other side which hasn't been touched apart from taking the outer roof off as it looks solid and that's the same . Is it supposed to be like that so rain can drain off either way if on a flat or has the van bent lol as it's been on axle stands for a while ?
I think you should post some photos Andy. ...but it's supposed to be straight if I understand what you're describing.
So i think I've sorted it, I just needed to put a decent support up in the sliding bay door frame , looks loads better! I'm pretty new to the restoration of bays so here's a few pics ....don't be too harsh or do
Good work well done ! Big mountain to climb but you will get there . Looks like you are going the right way by just concentrating on the welding first .
Thanks , it's definitely a learning curve ! I've still got to do the driver's seat pan and arch , sliding door lower repair and finish the roof and I'm not far off then I think
Cheers, I think just over 2 years now on and off , I've also done not shown on photos 2 door skins plus lower inner repair, the three inner and outer sills both sides including a body cut with track from Schofields for the sliding door as it had been bodged , both rear arches including inners as they were none existent lol ,OEM full rear corner , tailgate lower repair from bulge and the engine hatch which was only a slight repair.... probably the best panel on the vehicle ha . Oh yea and all four jacking points, it's been a mission to be fair
What they say ^ looks like you've done great job with the panel fitment,I always look at that. I bet you wish you had started with a better one though!
Cheers guys Hmmmm I will admit it was a sofa buy when I'd tore my Achilles at work , sat there feeling sorry for myself and thought I'd spend my money on a rust bucket rather than keeping it for being off work 6 months
He is! Having restored about 10 basket case T2's myself, some mine and some paid if I learned one thing it was every £1k you spend on the bus you start with saves many times that in parts and 100's of hours work. That's all. The further down towards the ground the rot starts the better aka never buy one with rust above the windows. I'd post a bunch of before/during/after pics but it's not my thread.
It's fine if you want to, I totally agree the better the bus the easier it'd be , I don't think the Sheldon high top helped the situation it wasn't a great fit and had leaks everywhere
