A place I've yet to visit, planned to go Easter 2020.
Everyone says Skye is such a wonderful place and so beautiful. I can understand why it was your mum and dad's favourite place. Enjoy the memories and the journey x :)

A couple of baby plum trees that were only propagated at the end of August and really shouldn’t have started growing until next spring. The weather conditions have obviously been perfect through September!

Have you hired a white plastic thing for the trip around?
Skye was beautiful the last time I was there... I really must go back again.
I'm glad the weather looked better for you to scatter your parents ashes than it does right now (although those breaks in the clouds look promising) x

  5. I can't really see due to the 'bokeh', but are the growing shoots coming from the rootstock? You may not want that.

No, but it it is a big metal thing :). We had planned a Scotland trip anyway and as my parents fave places in the UK were Skye and Northumberland we decided to pop over to Skye and scatter some here. It was a bit rainy and windy  when we did them , but isn’t that always the wa when doing ashes! :)

  7. This was the drain plug from my Caravelles gearbox. There was also a big pile of plastic bearing surround parts.

Apologies, I think my phone was on portrait mode.
No, this is definitely the 'chip bud' growing, not suckers from the rootstock. As said, they really shouldn't be doing this right now, but the weather has been warmer than usual .....and I've obviously got it right this year (after 20 years in the job you'd like to think, eh?) ;)

  10. I've never worked on plumbs, but grafted a bunch of apples during a horticulture course at Bath University. Under the famous Peter Thoday, if you ever watched the Victorian Kitchen Garden. A small clip of which was filmed in my then bedroom...

Ah fair enough; it's an enjoyable process isn't it? Probably my favourite part of my job. I've not heard of Peter Thoday unfortunately, but a quick google brings his name up a good few times  I've learned my skills on the job, as sadly my old nursery manager was always too tight to send us on courses, but in the 20 years I've worked my way up to chief propagator and am one of the few people who still 'grafts' trees in the winter time commercially, certainly in this area. Did you get to keep your apple trees?

  18. Every few days the ash comes over the mountain and I have to sweep it up. But I don’t really sweep it up anymore I just leave it there because I’m waiting till the end of it. But the earthquake was 4 km away from where I am. And It really rattled the house for about 8 to 10 seconds, A definite ohsh/t moment.
