Sill vs jacking poing 1973 Bay

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by anubus, Nov 15, 2011.

  1. Have asked over on VZi to no avail. Replacing the inner sill offside (RHS on a RHD) with a schofield part number 11 sill and schofields part number 20 front jacking point. the sill is clamped and butted tightly against the cargo floor and can go no higher. there is a gap of about .5 cm between the jacking point and the top hat section. Any ideas?

they seem to always be like this i have done them with genuine sills and jacking points with the same issues, i has genuine german jacking point to ( which are pretty much identical in every way to the brazil one) still the same issue, i usually chop the thick lip off the jacking point and fillet weld the edge

  4. Right, so you cut the little "feet" off?

  6. Thanks for the reply. I can't see any other way of doing it. Cut the wings/feet off and deepen the corner. Weird thing is the sills on the bus were not as tall as these (about 1 cm or so) and that jacking point fitted in perfectly before I had to cut the whole sill out.

yeah thats it, maybe the outers are to long but if you trim them the centre sill wouldnt fit either, so chopping the jacking point seems the easiest and quickest way

  9. crappy fabrications... I've reworked parts before to make everything square

but generally that's how parts seem to be now :(

  10. Thanks V much for the advice. 1 more related question. As I have no reference points (had to cut floor, rear wheel tub etc out) should I clamp it up using a spirit level to keep it straight? When I jacked the bus up I levelled it as best I couls using a level so am pretty sure that's be the most logical way? TIA
