Be interesting to see how they check - it's not like an EGR valve delete where there's a blanking plate.

I'm not saying its not without risk - I just can't see the VOSA high vis guys being able to verify its happened?

Are VOSA allowed to plug into the diagnostics when they pull you over? Otherwise, unless a part is removed not sure how they can tell.

  3. There’s talk of connecting the cars ecu up for checks at mot time but I’m not sure if it in effect yet or if it even got the go ahead

You’re right. A good guy I know who does MOT’s tutted when I said what we were thinking of but admitted it’s pretty undetectable!

Having had an aftermarket automotive company - I'd be very wary of plugging into the diagnostic port on a customer car.

'Mate - it had no faults before you touched it!' etc etc.

A literal can of worms - plus I imagine you'd need to go into the long coding - I know a fair amount about it as I've coded out the faulty alarm on my passat and fitted aftermarket tow bars and cruise control to various cars I've owned in the past - all of them Audi or VW.

Bugger knows what's that like on the hundreds of different makes of cars.

The question is ‘ when did any of us ever get pulled over by vosa? I’m a truck driver and have only been pulled twice in 40 years, never in my car, but I suppose if you live near a checkpoint your chances are higher!

  8. Ulez will just pick up the age of the vehicle from the reg no.

I know but that’s not what I’m saying. I reckon the fine might be severe as Adblue in a diesel engine makes it ulez free so if you’re caught I guess they might get extra upperty!

It’s on emissions not necessarily the age. All our vehicles are ulez exempt, not sure about the LT or the bay though!

Also we chose an Adblue car to avoid the charges in Manchester and Birmingham where we go a fair bit!

Just checked and the LT will be exempt in April and the bud is already exempt. Win win

  12. In a Bay, being a Classic, you can go sailing through the centre of London, pausing only to bare your arse at Sadiq. Will have to pay congestion charge, tho'

My lad’s Citroen is on 108k now without major issues. Lou’s cactus 65 reg has done 40k and has had control body renewed and Adblue tank. My note that i inherited off Lou when we bought the cactus a few years ago has been a brilliant motor but it has French wiring and I’m always having to bodge up the wiring on the rear hatch, otherwise 120k and spot on, new clutch at 90k and front suspension struts have been replaced completely at 90k, and rear wheel bearings twice, but the first time I put cheap chinesium ones on, lesson learned!

  16. Is there a particular reason you asked about which gearbox?
I’m going to look at one with the dsg box on Thursday
It’s had the oil change done on the box by a Skoda dealership
    Are they a troublesome box?

  17. What happens of you don't put ad blue in....?

  18. Goes into limp mode I think

  19. DSG boxes are brilliant and shift so smoothly but when they go wrong and they do occasionally they are expensive to repair .The mechatronic units sometimes start leaking also. .With cars it purely down to luck but to keep the odds in your favour try buying the lowest ownership , mileage and good service history .Unless you need 4wd and diesel ?? go for the smaller engined petrol 2wd. .
