Solex pdsit float level

  1. hi all,
I have got a pair of solex pdsit carbs to refurb and fit in place of some Webber idf44 carbs (economy reasons mainly) The carbs have cleaned up well and the gasket refurb kit looks good but I cannot work out how to check the float level. Ratwell mentions 12-14mm from top of lower body but not how to take the measurement or from where. Once the body is apart the float is held in by a loose c-clip and the needle valve is in the upper body.
    Any help on this appreciated

  2. When I do this I gently remove the top of the carb and the gasket after the engine has turned over ensuring the carb is full. Leaving the float in I place the back end of my calipers on to the side of the bowl and gently lower the flat rod until it touches the petrol. Then read the gauge. Make sure you’re lowering into the fluid away from the edge or you’ll hit the meniscus and it’ll give a lesser reading.

It will be interesting to hear of the difference in fuel economy when you change back ..

  4. Actually I’ve done this a time or two on the bench with a hose and funnel overhead to fill up. Nip the hose and remove before taking the top off the carb.

  5. Thanks, that's great. Just the information I needed

  6. I'll try it this way while it's on the bench. Thanks
