Steering column

  1. Hi

Hope someone can help, I'm trying to remove my steering column for painting, but can't figure out how to remove to shroud. The steering wheel is off but I can't see any screws that would allow me to split it or pull it off, am I missing something :-[

  2. If it's a later one (column and bracket in one piece), you can't take the shroud off until the column's off - it's screwed on underneath.

Wheel off, pull off wiring harnesses both sides downwards, deal with washer pipe, floor plate up, coupler undone, undo single bolt to front panel, two bolts under dash, column off. Then you can take the switches out and shroud off. Pretty easy, really.

  3. Cheers snotty it's a 78, got the wheel off, shaft out the middle, just hanging on the wires. Thought I had to get the shroud off before the wiring.

  4. Nope - the wiper & indicator looms just unplug by pulling carefully from the bottom.

Remember to depressurise the washers before yanking the pipe off (ask me how I know this :( )

  5. How do you know that?
