Sticky steering wheel

  1. OK, I've cleaned it, I cleaned it again, and again, it looks shiny but 10 minutes later...it's still bloomin' sticky! How do I remove the "sticky" from my steering wheel?

I could be funny but the moderators wont appreciate it.
    Have you tried a de-greaser?

it's decomposing, you might be best to paint it.

  5. If it's the later one, a good scrubbing with Cillit bang. You'll be amazed the muck that comes off.

  6. Ours is worse in cold weather - will suggest to Richard we try Cillit bang - thanks!

  7. Mine was unusable if it rained.

  9. ours was worse when it warmed up. took to just wet wiping it till it stopped. it has worked. I think it was just muck.

What the others have said...my late steering wheel was particularly bad, and despite all manner of cleaning, it still didn't lose the sticky feeling completely, so I changed it from this..

Jeez where's Ricky with the smutty comments when you need him!

  12. Didn't the Everly brothers sing "You've Lost That Sticky Feeling"...?

  15. You should just phone him up and tell him to clean it himself.

  16. ^^^ did you mean to say that Ricks friend should be polishing his own knob rather than getting Rick's one sticky?

    Gear knob I mean ;)

  17. "Goo Gone" if you can get it. american product made of citrus juices amongst other things - removes grime, sticky, rubber marks, the lot.

We had similar - somebody had wrapped a lot of golf club grip tape on ours.

Underneath the grip tape there was sticky stuff and there were big chips in the rim.

Scraped sweat off, coarse sanded, filled chips and then spray painted black.

Then wrapped 10m of black 10mm wide craft leather strip around the rim - it actually needs 9.8m, as at the time we couldnt find a decent plain black wheel cover on eBay.
