No but will have a tool to sort the thrust face on the main crank bearing saddle and maybe line bore by the middle of summer
Got the flywheel oil seal in after a full day cutting firewood. It's too cold to stay out too long so flywheel clean up and final refit can wait Nice home made tool from 20 something years ago to push it home square In with a smear of permatex
Little bit more done. Got all the tinware together to take to the powdercoater. Just the inlet manifold pre heater to clear and the oil bath air filter to sort for coating. Getting the fan nut off was easier than expected as people on here have suggested it was a pig of a job.
Finally picked up the crates of tin off the garage floor and took them to the powdercoaters £150 for everything including heat exchangers I think that's a good deal Hope to get it finished next week if the header from davidoft matches up
Nice progress, better to do it slowly and enjoy. When I stripped my alt I found the bearings were not that great so bought a set of best quality from 'Simply Bearings' excellent service and prices. The front bearing had at some stage been turning in the steel housing which was worn slightly so I used some shim steel and thread lock to make it a firm fit.
Got it back today. It's proper good. I know heat x and manifold should be grey but was going to cost more so hey ho Clean enough to be on the kitchen floor
Oh nuts Literally I've just noticed I'm missing one of the cage nuts from the head shroud the one that you bolt the pre heater pipe cover into. I can't go on until I find one as they go in from behind
Started putting back together but still can't find a caged nut so will have to wait until Monday to finally tighten it all up Managed to find six original domed nuts with good thread for strainer plate
Asked at work today if the IT bof had any m6 caged nuts. It was quite funny as they normally speak tech so you feel inadequate but I got him on this one and walked away feeling quite smug with two "square rack mount screw thingies"
Well this looks really good and I admire your patience and attention to detail. I found that it was impossible to fit my alt with the intake manifold and fan housing in place, might be worth checking before you fit much more.
Cheers That is only mocked up. Alt is now in and strapped down. Didn't put it in before as I had to lift shroud off again to fit that damn caged nut
Just looked at the start date of this build. Aug 28 2014. I could have filed an engine from a solid block of metal in the time I've had to finish this. Hope to get this finished and in the car but maybe not running by the end of the weekend. Still need to clean and rebuild the carb fit the clutch fuel pump dizzy leads and set the valve clearances and put some oil in. Got to paint the air cleaner top too because powder coating would burn the horse hair filter out of it. So far I recon I'm about £230 into this as a job lot purchase off eBay yielded enough parts to sell to cover costs of some parts purchased Not too bad if it runs
Bit more tonight. New dizzy drive shims arrived today so got them in and dizzy drive and dizzy. Fuel pump push rod and pump. Ht leads on an clipped to og clips To do list is now 1 refurb carb - done 2 paint air cleaner lid 3 rebuild air cleaner flaps etc 4 fit coil 5 find correct exhaust header or standard exhaust and fit 6 fill with oil 7 time it statically 8 fit it 9 plumb it 10 start it 11 drive off into the sunset
How did the manifold come out ? And heat ex as mine will be going in soon ! Great thread go me this as I Sha be doing same but no splitting case !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks fantastic, like new. Its interesting but, I have done my heat exchangers silver, my thinking is that the shiner they are the less heat they will radiate so should get and sty hotter and thus the air flowing through them should be hotter and better coming through to the front of the bus. It ill be good if it works!
