Yeah, I'm sort of joking, you guys look after your buses. But I remember very well after replacing dozens of outriggers how obvious is was that the rust started at the self tapper holes and spread from there. Same with rear closing panels. :)

  5. Picked up a starter for the spare gearbox. Didn't expect much for £10 but got lucky

Video with bonus cockapoo action :D

  6. The narrow topped flaps don’t fit the front brackets very well , ok for the rears

I fixed my front mudflaps to stainless box section.
Fixed with rivnuts into the outriggers before the belly rot covers were removed. £4600 later the mudflaps are still there and the belly pans are long gone.

For a different take on the rear flaps, you could try Landrover Disco 1 rears and trim off the tops.
They fit the @lhu1281 brackets well and in my case match the plain OG fronts quite well.

What they're there for I guess  better clean that later :)

  10. well at least the brackets won’t rust … flaps look good .. I spent years sourcing genuine VW ones and they are still expensive 50 year old rubber

Great, thanks for the pointer. Do you know if these can be adapted to the front as well? I don't have the template to see the difference in shape and size. Cheers

  14. How many con rods can you get upside down? I managed one before my brain started working properly.

  15. Can't believe you've balanced the rods ...
Hang on maybe I can ...

So what's the plan when it's been lovingly rebuilt ??
    Back to 1600 ??

  17. Noooo. I luuuuuurve my RP engine.

Had two sets of rods - who doesn't? - and picked the best ones. VW decided to change the weights at some point, so a couple needed a tickle with the Dremel.

I'll be happy if oil pressure and proper end float is restored, and the case plugs don't pee oil everywhere. Decide what to do with it then.
