Keep your old ones, my experience is the paint will start peeling off new ones in a few years.

I hope I had that one covered, rubbed them back to get a key, primed and satin blacked them. Fingers crossed its enough to prevent peeling etc!

  6. Not perfect but much straighter and brackets and bumper painted, all good for a few years.

To straighten it, it started with supporting both ends and me hopping up and down on the middle followed by a night where it was weighted (130kg was required) to keep it in position.

  7. Rubbed my rear end with wet and dry. Quite refreshing, actually.

I might, just might, get started on the engine bay refurb tomorrow.
I might have finally tied down the elusive mechanic to get the engine out, although I'm counting no chickens in advance.
Could this be the start of a thermostat, an improved oil cooler and fan shroud, and maybe some powder coated tinware?
Should we dare to dream about the off-side outer sill being welded up?
I can't even think about possibility of the twin dells finally making their way from the box in the garage to a position of usefulness in the engine bay.....

    It could all happen.......

  10. It could. Bits need to "mature" in box in the garage for about 10 years before fitting, like fine wine.

    You'll luuuurve your Dells

  11. Right, I'm done. Might be a small rain-free window for a couple of hours tomorrow to slap some Sage Green on...

Or I could just drive home from the workshop with a tin of degreaser, some scotchbrite, and the promise of next saturday! It's a start.
Right, I'm off to clean up what I can get to with the engine still firmly IN the noisy cupboard.

  18. Should be able to do quite a lot with the engine in. Are you brush painting?

First step's cleaning the filth off!

Using a bit of air drying modelling clay, a sample piece of leather from DFS and some super glue, I’ve converted the ashtray into a phone holder…needs a few tweaks but holds the phone in round corners.
