Torsion leaves - Help!!!!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by bryandsi, Jan 21, 2012.

  1. I'm putting a Red9 Easirider coil over kit (Torsion bars and dampers on my bus.) I know the arguements for and again but decided to go ahead.

But...I've ballsed up - have removed the torsion arms from one side but left the leaves in the beam - got the 4 smaller leaves out but can not budge the rest (I should have pulled the leaves with the arms).

Any ideas or do I have to remove the arms on the other side too?????
    Cheers B

What Joker says, have you removed the large grub screws from the other end?

  4. Cheers guys - yep had to do the otherside! Bad light just stopped play with just the roll bar rubbers and clips to do - long day but at least I know the way around a front beam now!

  5. sorry to jack the thread but you are the only person iv heard of using the easy rider kit and just wandered what the arguements for and against were as was thinking about these

  6. Hi CraigyP - as far as I can see it the issue is that using the kit (coilovers and the bars to replace the torsion leaves plus Red9's own replacement bumpstops) means that the whole of the weight of the front end is taken by a single bolt each side.

I spoke with Red9 and talked it through - the issue for me was that if any bolt shears on any set up you have a problem. On a bus with a rusty beam any changes could cause issues (mine is a Cali import and is in good nick) but if your beam is in poor condition it would make sense to get rid in any case!

Up until a few months ago I rode a Triumph Trident a 160 mph motorcycle which at high speeds can be leaned over at crazy angles with all the shear force put through a single bolt on a monoshock - same issue to me and most m'bikes now use this set up. My feeling is any drop at the front involves changes to stock they all have their pros and cons, I just liked Red9's ideas and they were very helpful!
    Cheers
