Im trying to fit my non adjustable track rod Yes i know it should be a straight forward 10 min job however I cant stop the ball joint spinning as i tighten the nut Ive tried putting pressure on the bottom of it with a jack ive tried clamping it in place Ive tried winding the old casselated nut over it first to seat it Ive tried winding another non nylock nut over it to seat it Ive cleaned all traces of grease out of the hole in the arm in an attempt to get it to bite so i can wind the nut on Non of the above have worked so someone please give me another idea to try as its getting on my tits now
Oh theres no hex hole in the top or flat face to put a spanner on I can get three maybe four full turns on it before the balljoint spins
Persevere! Try and keep some clamping pressure on the taper, and start with a non-locking nut tightened up slowly. Once the taper gets a grip, you're sorted.
Yeah i tried that snotty cheers for the reply Ive sorted it now The thread was damaged so i held the shaft in a pair of mole grips and ran the thread restorer over it Then i gave the the taper a few punches with the centre punch to aid grip and its all fastend up fine now. Right back out in the pouring rain to fit the new steering drag rod and wheel bearing and hub
Hit the top with a hammer while tightening (2 man) job) don't hit 2 hard or you'll squash the socket.
