My main bus is going to be restored. It’s a LHD, 1974, 1800cc originally from Sweden. I have another disaster bus that can provide pieces where necessary. It’s a 75, RHD, UK machine. The 74, LHD dash is the normal black padded vinyl type. The 75, RHD dash is metal and painted with a similar looking black textured effect. I’ll ignore the holes for buttons and switches, but im thinking to tidy up the metal RHD dash and use it in my restoration. Here’s the question, or cause for a pause. My 74 has a notch out for the steering column bracket. The metal RHD one does not have this. I hadn’t noticed this difference before. So I’m really just canvassing opinions and thoughts. I can see now that my LHD has a different steering column bracket and I either change that, or cut a similar notch out of the metal dash to fit around it. The LHD’s bracket is higher up compared to the RHD, so that’s why it’s had a cut out in the dash. But it looks original to me, not a later bodge job. Curious - wonder why the design change? I’m sure I can make it all work, but always worth asking those that have been before me. I did search for an existing thread but didn’t find one. If there is one, point me there and I’ll contribute to that one instead of this new one. thanks.
Yes I can. But usually there are things other people have had to find out the hard way. So always worth asking opinions before doing something you can’t undo.
