Washer Jets and Pending MOT

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by popester63, Apr 3, 2012.

  1. I still have the good old bicycle pump powered washer system. The drivers side jet emits a suitable squirt but nothing out of the passenger side. Have fitted new jet but no difference and pumped up to give some more pressure.

MOT is due at end of month - what is the concensus on my chances of getting a pass given that the drivers side is working.

If no chance, then may go down the leccie pump upgrade path and change the pipes while I am at it (wot a pig they are to get to!).

    Cheers

  2. if you remove the washer jet does water come out of the tube ?

  3. have you tried a pin to direct it..?

  4. if you fitted a new and clear jet then its not the jet, so it must be the pipe. Check the pipe, or the t junction. You won't get an MOT with one jet, unless you're MOT bloke is dodgy. Take your radio out for easy access to the pipes. Wear sleeves though so you don't cut your wrists on the dash
    :)

  5. Or...whip the glovebox out.

One poss is the pressed metal clips that hold the pipes to the front panel - easy to squish the pipes. Or a bunged-up t-piece, as Joker says.

  6. Thanks all. I did fit a brand new jet, so it has to be a pipe problem - will whip out the glovebox and radio and trace it back to the bottle.

  7. I had similar probs a while ago and it turned out that the rubber pipes were breaking up through old age and blocking the jets/pipes. Replaced all with poly and also fitted leccie pump- far better now!!

  8. Ran a new length of poly pipe to the lhs jet and getting a glorious squirt up both sides. Agree that it points to a blockage in the old rubber pipe.

You need to be a contortionist to get at the jets under the dash - need a long soak in a hot bath to sort all the kinks in my back and neck after that little job :)

MOT due before month end so just need to pluck up courage and get her booked in.
