What are ideal readings for oil pressure/temp

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by mi2itsdl, Jan 7, 2012.

  1. When driving and warmed up, what readings (ideal range) should I get from a set of auto meter oil temp/pressure gauges.

Gauges ordered but not fitted yet.

  2. oil temp depends on loads of things i.e. weight in van, drag caused by roof racks, gear ratios, modifications, engine tune and condition etc your better of keeping a eye on the gauge seeing what your engine normally runs at temp wise then if it goes much higher than it usually does then you know somethings wrong but you dont want oil temp much above 120 degrees or you oil will start breaking down. vw usually say 2bar oil pressure min at 2000rpm with 80degree oil temp

Air cooled engines have a very wide operating range and must gauges are not that accurate
the important thing is to learn what the patten is for your engine.
