It was built to the plot boundaries - detached at the time. On the deeds it wasn't there in 1832, then it was in1850. It fronts up square to the road, but the plot's not square. It's described as "imposing", which means it's half a floor up from the road and a disappointment once you get through the door. It's best asset is in [glow=red,2,300]FACT[/glow] the front door. Whoever knocks is way down below you on the steps and at an immediate peasant-style disadvantage. Magic when the cops come round looking for your naughty teenage children. I'm serious - they feel it and come over all polite and subservient - real easy to fob off. I do put it down to the front door and polished hall floor effect.
Lol, I had a victorian terrace with the same angle issues ...the front of the house was perpendicular to the road but the other walls went off at an awkward angle. Lovely modest house though. It had a cellar to which initially used to freak us all out until we got used to it. I remember moving in an thinking where are all these flies coming from?? Then I opened up the on of the fireplaces and there lay a dead pigeon -problem resolved!
Wow some great info, thanks I have had my living room gas fire fitted and tested by British gas. He tested the chimney with smoke and looked in the attic and bedroom for leaks. I just have an open fire place with nothing in it in the dining room but the hole is massive so thought a wood burner would fit nicely. All I got to do now is find one fairly cheap

i've got an open fire, but it whisps out smoke, especially when its cold? any ideas from the people in the know on here?
I'm sure people with wood burners need a permanent air vent fitted to outside air. The biggest killer is carbon monoxide from wood burners not gas appliances, all wood burners should be installed or certified by Hetas registered engineers Be warned!!!
