Had the Propex fired up last night as it was pretty parky out there . Set it running and went for a few light ales in the adjoining pub , returning to a toasty van at 10-ish and out like a light ... I woke up about midnight a bit chilly , propex out of gas - not a problem as i carry a spare 407 . I took off the empty but in my `befuddled state` couldn`t get the fresh cylinder threaded so i laid it on its side and spun the cylinder on as it lay sideways ... WRONG ! Sudden gush and my hand supporting the regulator was covered in pressurised LIQUID butane/propane - caught me unawares so in my `befuddled state` i just froze - literally - for a couple of second as i struggled to realise what was happening , eventually unscrewing the regulator a couple of turns to reseal the cylinder ... The liquid was well below freezing , my fingers have been sore and numb since i awoke this morning - will i die ?? Moral - don`t try to change cylinders by laying them on their sides , however `befuddled` you might be ... tuesday_wildchild
I did - about 100 yards away .... Relit the heater after about 20 minutes - with all the doors open Seriously , i never realised how cold the bottled liquid gas got - it was freezing outside but the bottle was inside a cupboard , when it gushed out i reckon my palm was momentarily stuck to the regulator - it really was that cold - ice crystals an` everything ...
Years ago a carper on the same lake as me set himself on fire changing the canister on a gas lamp whilst smoking a cig No wonder they moved away from the piercable catridges Glad your ok fella it could have been a lot worse
they do go very cold. ice crystals on outside of the bottle. had that before running it for long periods of time. how do you get the horrible smell from the gas anybody?. got air vent in floor but it stinks.
Story of my life .... In all seriousness , i`ve swapped it hundreds of times but made the mistake of laying it down so instead of a puff of gas i got a blast of liquid . Just a timely reminder for the great unwashed , always change bottles upright NOT on their sides and try not to do it in a `befuddled state`
thanks shall put new pipe in was fitted in 2014 by gasure uk in chester they did a good job fitting it.
At least you had it done professionally , but still check the joints with soapy water - just paint it on and look for bubbles
This is the quickest way of becoming Geordie. Do the other hand, and then move on to the arms. You'll be wearing T shirts in winter in no time.... Think about the gas you'll save!
