Reporting in for this week Section of damage welded up on the sealing edge which holds the foam in the engine bay. Square section in the cab behind the seat belt anchor point welded up and ground back. Cab floor and wheelarch panels/tubs sanded back, rust treated and red oxide primed. No work needed Just a square section to weld in on the drivers side, again behind the seat belt mount, finish off priming then colour!
Been up to do some more on Major today, lazy Saturdays and all that. Hole welded up Cab floor all painted up nicely..Job done Just got to paint the areas under the seat base, where the brake fluid reservoir is next week.
It was done like that by the PO to hide the bent sections on the floor in a couple of spots, so I repainted that bit black to hide it When it was in the US, unbeknown to us the front end had a serious crumple that did some damage, most of it was straightened up. The front panel was badly replaced hence all of our work on the cab. The floor has a little damage still, we didn't want to replace it as its fairly solid. I kinda like the black strip now!
Getting there Ewan! He's been sat for 8 months with no fuel (pump hose replacement & new filter) built up oil pressure and fuel in the FI, he started bang on when the time was right. Sat running spot on. Let me know when you want to pop up, we have no plans for a good while
Will do ...Dads funeral is on a week on Tuesday. So once that's all all over with i can get back on track again .....so much stuff to sort out
Oh dear, more holes Been rubbing some paint back on the left hand rear corner, removed the tailgate seal and lots of rusty/flakey bits of panel came out! It seems to be localised, thankfully!
@paradox We'll cut out the rot and repaint with some form of rust inhibiting paint, make a proper job of it!
Just done the same on mine a couple of weeks ago. Water seems to get trapped in there and it never drys out. Always had good results with that paint.
Did you replace the whole panel @vinnyboy or cut the rot out and replace it repair? We wanted to keep as much original steel as possible & minimise the repair
I was lucky. It looked a lot worse than it was. Caught it just in time so no repairs needed. Scotch pad type wheel on the drill and some emery cloth then treated.
Hi Marc, what do you use for spraying equipment. Our bus is now showing a need for quite a bit of attention
It depends. For large panels I think it’s a 1 litre gravity fed gun, for smaller fill ins it’s a little spray gun, possibly 250 ml, I’ll have to check. I ‘now the air compressor is an SGS one with an air dryer plumbed into the line. HTH
