Errr, no! They looked to be about six mm long, spacers inside and out, but I aint taking owt to pieces
No problem Mark I can understand you not wanting to take anything apart. When you say inside and out do you mean a spacer either side of the bush?
I’d have to order washers to do that So I might aswell order some stand off spacers to do the job neater. Just need to figure out the sizes needed first.
If you'd have said a month ago, the dampers where off the bus The spacers are either side of the bush, looking like they effectively centralise the damper so it doesn't catch on anything such as the beam mounting point or the lower arm.
Are they just on the bottom mount or on the top mount aswell? Is it just the front dampers that use them or do the rear ones also have them? I don’t recall any alignment issues when I built the rear up but will loosen the mounts off to double check.
I don't think our rears had them, from memory the "spacer" on those forms part of the top mount anyway. You'll see what I mean when you look.
No spacers on the rear, front dampers have them top and bottom. Just centralise the damper on the mount and measure the spacer required, if you’re a millimetre or so out it doesn’t matter.
I’ve recently removed the standard Boge dampers on mine and fitted Gaz adjustable coil-over dampers. I’m currently in Aberdeen but if you can wait until next week I’ll be home and can measure the spacer sleeve.
Cheers id appreciate that I’ll have a measure up myself in the mean time and then I can see how the two compare.
I am about to fit some KYBs to the front of my bus, I have just had a look and there are two spacers in the box, I have measured the thickness for you and they are each 6.9mm thick. Does that help? I dont know about the rears as the garage fitted them for me
Thanks pickles Could you measure the length of the metal inserts in the rubber bush on your damper please. My boge ones measure up at almost 32 mm If I pack the torsion arm mount out with 4mm of washers and fit the damper the top mount onto the beam lines up perfectly with no strain on the mounting bushes. I found this on the samba this morning So it would seem the new boge need 5 mm spacers either side But what I can’t get my head around is why if I’m having to pack out the bottom why does the top align correctly with no packing needed.
Cheers so they are the same as my boge which means I should require the same size spacers. How many spacers did you get per damper?
I've only opened one box, it has just two spacers in it. I suppose I ought to fit these to the bus rather than leave them in the garage
Thanks to all who helped All sorted now with some spacers off eBay Much nicer than a large stack of washers Also my rear wheel carrier from @davidoft turned up today
Today I set about cleaning up this mess Using a strip n clean disc along with a wire brush on the drill and a 60 grit flap disc on the grinder I got it to this stage Even after using the 60 grit I was left with pitting and a bit of corrosion I couldn’t remove I gave the worst corroded areas a coat of anti corrosion paint but it’s so hot out the paint was skinning up on the brush so stopped there It will now have to wait for some chopped strand fibreglass to be delivered
