Got lots of little jobs done this week.. LH Front Disc backplate was a rusty mess Brake caliper required new pistons, seals and o rings Towbar and Bumper Irons painted up nicely
The wheelarch is now done, damper painted up and all the stonechip is applied and coloured! No welding was needed, thankfully Back on four wheels
Back on it this week. Moved on to the rear left wheelarch to restore that area of Major. Inside of the drum was okay, the brake shoes no wear at all but the backplate was heavily corroded and covered in dust & rust. Will replace the brake cylinder and handbrake cable whilst we are at it. The wheelarch itself showed signs of rust coming through the dinitrol, again the rust on the arch itself was supposed to have been sorted by the professional On removing the old stuff, we found the original paintwork okay on the chassis rail but badly rusting on the archtub At least we will have the satisfaction of sorting it out
Moving on from where we left off, the underbody treatment was removed to find this little lot we confirmed that no rotten sections existed & Vactan treated / Red Oxide primed the whole lot The usual stone chip was applied followed by a couple of good coats of yellow Spring plate back on And the suspension & brakes refitted All that's left is to torque up the wheel hub nut, bleed the brakes and set the handbrake cable adjustments. That's another list checked off: Front brake calipers rebuilt with new pistons and seals new steel brake lines made up front wheel bearings replaced Rear torsion bars; all new donut bushes fitted new brake cylinders new handbrake cables new steel brake lines Next up, sort the chassis out
The brakes are now bled all round and the handbrake cables adjusted and working nicely. We have moved on to the underfloor and chassis rails this week & they look good, surface rust in lots of places but no rotten sections, thankfully! Some of the Dinitrol comes off when you brush your hands over it, its not taken all that good...Makes me wonder if the so called Pro's prepped at all.
Vactan to seal the rust, red oxide then we have some underbody stonechip with a rust inhibitor then we might go yellow on top of that
What a nightmare scraping underseal off, we're mostly finished and ready to Vactan treat & then oxide prime. I am pleased there is no rot at all and the rust is just surface rust, the chassis is very nice and solid * these images are the mid to front end of the floor, the rear end has had one coat of Vactan, Red Oxide and Rustoleum. It will get another coat of black eventually.
