  1. What paint did you use and what did you use to apply it - looks great

I used this to clean & degrease the roof:
    https://www.supplyshed.biz/product/pre-paint-boat-cleaner-fibreglass-gelcoat-wood-metal-paintwork/

then I keyed the surface up using (I think) 400 grit paper, degreased it again using the above.

It then had two coats of this:
    https://www.supplyshed.biz/product/marine-boat-undercoat-paint-fibreglass-grp/

    and two coats of this:
    https://www.supplyshed.biz/product/fibreglass-boat-paint/

both the undercoat and top coat was applied using a 30mm wide paint brush, I am happy with the result, however, I did try rolling it on & it didnt go very well hence going back to using a brush!

    HTH :)

For the first time ever, both buses are now at home with us and are garaged. Its been a long time coming!

We did all we can on Major at my parents, its now time to sort the roof and interior out (whilst the right hand cab door and engine lid are finished off).

To give a slightly different look, we went for satin black coloured bumpers & I think they look alright!

And I've made a start refitting the roof, front cap looks good

  5. Interesting read, the little details are what makes any restoration complete.
It shows also how even the best preservative products can be less than effective if applied by someone who doesn't know or doesn't care !!
Fantastic progress and looking forward to reading future updates.

Did your year come with the tassels on the front edge?

It’s never had one since we owned him but that’s not to say he shouldn’t. I can’t imagine it’d be to hard to fit one sometime

I got one from JK and it's spot on, just not fitted it yet.

Canvas that fits is a different ball game however...

Been taking advantage of the Christmas holiday and sorted quite a few bits and bobs out.

Lined the cab roof with sound deadening and lined it with the aluminium insulation.
Fitted the seals to the accelerator and clutch / brake pedals.
Replaced the centre push bar on the roof lifting mechanism.
Removed the rear overhead locker and side wardrobe for re lamination.
Removed all of the small pieces of roof trim and the big board which is part of the roof bed.

    Plans for the interior are:
To sand back and varnish the roof board - I think they will look better than the white plastic covering.
The side wooden trims need replacing as the plywood is splitting in places. The replacements will be varnished.
The cab roof needs a new plywood liner, this is split and beyond repair, This will be varnished.
All of the laminate trim panels will be replaced with new from NLAVW.
New lighting will be fitted as the old Hella ones are out of date.
The bodywork will be painted in Rustoleum.
Sound deadening and insulation will be bonded to any areas which need insulating.
If all goes well, the units will be relaminated, the sink / tap will be removed and a new top fitted.
    New upholstery.
Solar panels and leisure battery and a 240V hook up / mains installed.
    Engine TBC.

I have two motors in the running, a scooby conversion or a 2250 type 4 and both are coming out at similar costs!

See, I have Gusbus our other bay with the tuned motor, this bus, Major is going to be our longer distance bus hence the possible scooby conversion
