are kick panels a tight squeeze?

  1. Little tip, if the panels are made of wood / hardboard etc then just get a damp cloth and wet them a bit, more than a lick but less than a downpour.

This makes them more ply-able and they will dry in situ and into the shape you need them to be.

  2. Trying to fit my madmatz kick panels now and they really won't go in. Already snapped one! Will try giving them a good lick now and see if they go in any easier...

  3. Omg I don't want to snap mine... Mine really won't go in either you.think it could be to do with them being covered in mat making them bigger x

  4. You're lucky mine are well floppy
Just one out to hide a freeview box behind it and I dont think it will take much more handling

  5. Tried again but no joy - they're definitely too long!

  6. Have they got plywood/mdf on the back? If so make sure you get that windscreen leak fixed before you fit them otherwise it will probably ruin the wood. The idiot previous owner of our van fitted new doorcards when he knew the poptop leaked, we had to chuck them out as they were covered in mold all up the back :(

Depending on how old your bus is, earlier ones had a sort of small shelf about 1/4" high and a few mm deep, running along where the bottom of the kick panels fit. Keeping the panels on top of this shelf sometimes makes the difference between too long or not. If you don't have the shelf and it won't ruin your particular cards, I'd cut the inner end down a bit at a time until they fit. If you can't, is the vertical channel near the door clear and not squashed?

  8. They're in! Opened the channels right up, and with some brute force and a few kicks they are in. The drivers side isn't as snug as the passenger, but it's good for now.

  9. They look nice DB, Madmatz I presume ?

  10. mine are vinyl covered plywood but wouldnt fit either so I had to unpick the vinyl. cut half an inch off the end with a stanley knife and then re staple the vinyl to get them to fit. plenty of plastic sheeting and gaffer taped behind - not the best job but you really have to look hard to see the diy bodge job

  11. Yep, madmatz Lofty - I'm really pleased, makes the cab feel really spacious!
