Only got 18 years of history (I'm well young me!) so hope to add to this rather pathetic list: 1969 1200 beetle (driven flat out with massive end float and very little flood) Mk1 golf auto Mk2 golf driver Vauxhall omega (3 whole litres of rear wheel drive madness) Mk5 golf (company car, got through 2 turbos in a year) Mk3 golf estate (free and least reliable) T25 autodleeper (miss this one most) Vauxhall Astra estate (worst car ever, absolute heap) 1971 beetle The bay Citroen C3 Picasso I would like to add a American pickup, beach buggy, Volvo amazon and a mk1 caddy to this list, but 3 kids under 6 has put that on hold (and explains the Citroen!)
It really upsets me to remember all my early cars that I sold and would need a few bit coins to get anything similar back now . It also worries me why I’m not so bothered what I drive now . My bay makes me smile when I drive it ,but I so wish I could of had it way back then . Driving anything else is just a means of a to b but no enjoyment unlike back in the seventies speed was more of a thrill imo then . Cars these days all look the same and don’t have the style or character to me .

Totally agree Barney. Maybe it’s an age thing.??? But I can’t get excited about any new cars now. I’d love something like a mk2 Escort rs2000. I don’t think new cars have any soul.

Believe it or not Mark a old dear in Ashbourne had one of those ...and that colour . Absolutely mint mega low miles in a garage . After years of knowing it was in there ...i ended up calling on her as to if she sell it . She said 2 men took it away .....i wonder what they paid for it

'59 Beetle given to me by my father. '66 1600 TL.White with red interior but I wrote it off. LDV kit car with beetle 59 chassis and 1600TL engine Peugeot 201 issues with thermostat '63 1500s a real gem, really wanted to keep but sadly had to let it go when leaving Kenya. '73 Beetle 1300 given to me when my mum bought one of the first Honda Jazzes. Fiesta 1100 Ghia under powered so part of a divorce settlement.. '69 1500 Beetle inherited from my old man. '73 Westy ...and I cherish it today.. Honda 1500 Aerodeck Daihatsu Domino (Spot) '04 Skoda 14v Fabia good reliable and so far trust very worthy. The car that is.. '92 Golf Driver used for 6 years and given away for parts '95 Polo sheared clutch arm so had to be binned. '02 Nissan Micra SV faultless so far but don't have MOT stuff here, airbag light still flashing............
Barry i can’t believe you didn’t have a nova , I didn’t own one but I used to go to work with my uncles partner who did , blue it was lifting the roof / door was a bit of a faff but it was a babe magnet, used to fly too and sounded sweet great memory’s
The ones I can remember, roughly in order since 1977: (* still own) Hillman Imp Austin Mini Vauxhall Cresta Ford Granada Triumph 2000 Ford Anglia Hillman Imp Datsun Cherry Austin 1100 Bond Bug Ford Escort Vauxhall Viva Renault 10 Hillman Avenger Pontiac Firebird Ford Cortina Austin A30 Austin Champ Rover 3500S Chevrolet Camaro Ford Granada Triumph Spitfire White Fiat? Morris Marina MGBGT Morris Ital Triumph Herald convertible Alfasud Rover SD1 3500 Ford Capri 2.8 Jaguar XJ6 Triumph Spitfire Vauxhall Cavalier Alfa 33 Triumph Herald Rover Vitesse Ford Mondeo Pontiac Transam MGBGT Rover 216 convertible Vauxhall Cavalier Austin Champ Wrangler Jeep BMW 528 Jaguar XJ8 TVR 350i BMW Z4 3.0 * Ford Mondeo VW Camper * MG Midget Volvo T5 Peugeot 308 Morris Minor Vauxhall Vectra Hillman IMP * Mercedes 220 * Bikes Yamaha FS1E Suzuki GT250 Yamaha DT250 Yamaha RD200 Suzuki GT550 Kawasaki Z650 Yamaha XS650 Suzuki GT380 Kawasaki GPZ550 Honda CB750 * Suzuki GS750 * Suzuki TS185 * Suzuki GT250 *
You went from a Hillman Avenger to a Pontiac Firebird?! Was a girl involved? I find these lists totally fascinating. So many tell stories of yoof and chasing a mate, to marriage and kids as the cars get sensible, then maybe back to some fun later. Plus the financial peaks and troughs we all go through. Top thread idea @Barry Haynes
