www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2352224/On-edge-Armageddon-Staggering-pictures-firefighters-battle-contain-cataclysmic-blaze-sparked-Chinese-lantern.html Guess that's another nail the their coffin.
I think they look pretty, but hope they get banned. A few years ago after new year we went for a walk in the park - they were loads of lantern 'carcasses' all caught up in the trees - what a mess. And they're dangerous to animals: http://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaigns/wildlife/chineselanterns
There is something lovely about watching the lanterns go but they really are the worst things in the world. We use to camp in a site in Sussex and for some reason people always let then go from here. At times when the site was packed I couldn't help but feel a little scared for those in a tent and thinking "how many people am I going to drive over when I evacuate the bus and my friends??" Ban them!!!!!!
We once let loads off on a campsite on my friends 30th Birthday. It was a bit windy, some got caught in trees then one caught fire and started falling towards caravans and gas bottles. Although we were all drunk we still had the sense to realise that we needed to act. We legged it across the field sorted it out and made sure no one was killed in their sleep! The next day we were able to nervously laugh about it, be we all realised it could have been a disaster. Lesson learnt. What goes up, must come down. If it comes down whilst it is still on fire it can easily cause carnage!
We would have been lucky to be able to let them off last year. And if they came down they would have phutted out from the damp.
Bloody things. You wouldn't chuck a handful of wire out into a field for livestock to find, but seeing as these lanterns are pretty its ok. If you want to make a wish its a lot more eviromently freindly to kill a chicken and snap its wishbone in half
A few years ago (maybe 4) on New Year's eve I was having a gander out the window as everyone else was in bed before 12. I started to see lights in the sky - some travelling at different speeds and some seemed to be flickering - quite a few. I honestly thought I was seeing UFO's - am genuinely not making this up. I was gutted when I read they were Chinese Lanterns the next day....ah well.....
these things cause loads of fires, its only cos this was a biggun with firefighters getting injured that its made the news. how many hectares of corn get burnt each year because of these things, oh and idiots flicking their fag buts out of their windows as they drive past corn fields, filthy yes. retarded yes yes yes
one of these landed on my brother in laws 4000 bale of hay stock last year and it has almost bankrupted him. such an isignificant flame can cause such devastation. obviously as evident in the Mail. Reckon they should be banned. We arent even chinese. wtf
Own up as to using them YES But I use the bio degradable ones, no wire. We once set one off and it got tangled up in a pylon, could see it dripping flame.
Ooooh I saw that smoke when I driving back from the Midlands on Fathers' Day, I was talking to poptop2 about it. It was massive and to think, all because of a Chinese Lantern. I think they look pretty - but ban them.
We set the off last new year and I refuse to ever do it again... they really are a stupid idea... as for dripping flame yes I can vouch for that because I have a scar on my arm from one little drip which continued to burn when it landed on my skin... if that had landed on some ones face/eye they could have been blinded... so yeh they are banned in our house now... and I've signed the petition... sorry to hear about you brother in laws hay stock PSG And the fire in birmingham is terrible
2-3 years ago the same firm, jayplas, had a depot in loughborough, also go up in flames, had to price up a job inside the depot before the fire, but walking around there was rubbish everywhere, blowing about in the wind, open to the elements and stacked next to fences, obviously never learnt the lesson, bet there insurance company will try and get out of paying up this time!!
after watching tangled my daughter wanted these for her birthday. they looked so pretty going up into the sky however 5 minutes later i was diving over a neighbours hedge to retrieve one from a bush before the thing caught fire!. we wont be buying them again. I do wonder where the metal bit that doesnt burn ends up as well, they arent the best idea in the world.
On a lighter note, have you seen the title of the link in the first post? Perhaps a little over the top. Lol
fxxxing things, my mate let some off for Bow's ( our son's ) birthday at Whitenoise last year, I begged her not to , explained the wildlife deaths, and risk of fire .............. then watched it horror as they went off hoping they would not land on someones tent or worse .
