After seeing the copious amount of posts on here about Doombar and"how good it is" and "how i could never drink anything else" I saw it at a do we went to tonight so I thought I had better sample some. OMG. How on earth can you people drink this spawn of the devil dirty dishwater? I would rather spend the evening eating dirty old cigarette butts out of an ashtray! My god, have you lot got no sense of normality or taste buds? Ok, I must admit that I am rather partial to the "water out of the black and white cans" that @1973daisey lives on but come on, Doombar? Utter Marmitee" ( in my opinion!!)
Pah! I like Doombar quite a lot. Tho I also like 6X, Hooky, London Pride and ales of that ilk. As the Doombar has ran out before I've got to it the last two techenders I've been to I say keep saying it's rubbish so I may actually get to drink some
Doombar is quite a nice real ale, though there are even nicer ones. I think you have to get used to that warm hoppy taste if you've been brought up on Carling, Fosters and other chemical ******* concoctions.
It seems to taste better at Eddy's (that may be the company though)- I don't usually drink it anywhere else tbh.
Good morning ☺ I actually work at Sharp's Brewery, so I'm fairly well qualified to comment I think! Haha. Doom bar, as you may or may not be aware, is the countries best selling cask ale. It's won loads of awards both national and internationally. It does however, have it's flaws! The biggest being that because it's quite a smooth, subtle beer it is easy to tell when you have a "bad" pint! If you want something with more of a kick, try the Wolf Rock, that's a beautiful red IPA. To do Doom Bar justice you may need to find a different pub, or buy a bottle. The bottled stuff travels far better and isn't effected by the things that can really ruin a pint of Doom, which is normally incorrect storage and poor lines in pubs. ☺☺
That very much applies to Marston's Pedigree too .....and probably most TBH ....like you say bottles are often a better bet
It was draught. (After that experience I'm not brace enough to try it from a bottle!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
But isn't the bottled stuff brewed up north no where near its Cornish roots. And they sold out to Molson Coors when was that? I'm not a great fan of it really, in many pubs I go in its the cheapest ale so I presume it is mass produced and heavily promoted/discounted to make it best selling.
Molson Coors bought Sharp's around 6-7 years ago. It isn't mass produced at all, all draught Doom Bar is brewed down at our brewery in Rock. We are a fraction of the size of most breweries but we do work 24 hours 7 day a week, churning out on average 3000ish casks a day Monday to Friday. It's a premium ale and as such is nearly always one of the most expensive ales. If you are getting it cheap then someone is subsidising it, lol. The bottled beer used to be made in Rock and driven up to Burton, as Rock doesn't have a bottling plant. These days, all the bottled beer is made and bottled up in Burton using the same recipe we use down in Cornwall.
