Ever so slightly apprehensive

  1. Actually, quietly bricking it. Going to have my eyes assessed tomorrow for cataract surgery. Been told to take someone with me because they may need to dilate my pupils so driving home is not advisable. I've been having trouble for a few years now and glasses don't make any difference to my vision. I knew 2 -3 years ago I had it coming, just didn't expect it so soon (i'm 56) but I have been on immunosupressive drugs for over 20 years and this is another outcome of side effects.
Anyone else had this op? Am I worrying unnecessarily?

  2. Yeh my 84 year old mum , couple of weeks ago , she said it was a diddle or ws a it a doddle. Anyway good luck ,your be fine but i can understand , operations are not everyday stuff to us, but surgeons are getting better all the time.

I haven't needed to, but a friend has had the op. He now only needs reading glasses instead of the coke bottle lenses he used to have.

  4. Both my parents have, easy peasy! Even my incredably shy old farmer of a father had it done, considering he doesn't even answer a telephone, getting him into a hospital is a miracle let alone actually having anything done! He had it done about a month ago and is over the moon! Really no need to worry.

I deal with a lot of people who have had the op and need eye drops off me for a couple of weeks after. Pretty much everyone is positive about the process and the outcome. Don't worry

  6. I agree quick and simple and makes a world of difference.....

  7. Is it the same as laser eye surgery?

I've had laser eye surgery, the cheapest type £800. Best thing I've ever spent my money on.n
It's quite weird when it's being done, someone poking and cutting your eye etc but you can't really see it and can't feel anything. I now have 20:12 vision, not needing to buy glasses every year.

    So relax it'll be fine

And I've had my pupils dilated loads of times while they dig swarf out. I always drive home, but I don't have cataracts.

  9. if it's any help at all my friend was in her 30's when she had them done , and she is now pushing 20 ( she will thank me for that) and is just fine and dandy !

Are you nervous of hospitals or is it an eye specific nervousness?

I had to have a steroid injection in one of my eyes this week - I can sympathise on the nerves front - after all - you only have the two eyes and they are delicate things.

By the other posts on here it sounds like its a wildly successful op - that's a bonus at least!

  12. oh .......................I see what you mean ! Ooopppsss I meant 50 ! Thanks zed for that ! o_O :D

I saw this op done as a student nurse about 18 years ago, fascinating to watch, especially as patient was fully conscious throughout! It was a routine op even back then so it should be all the more straightforward now. Don't worry I say.

  16. I dont know anything about the op
I would however like to wish you luck and im sure you will find a new lease of life once you have recoverd from it and your sight is better

  17. Hope all went ok for you, speedy recovery:thumbsup:

I'm sure it'll be fine buddy. I've been told I'll need it done after a football injury to one of my eyes before I'm forty and that's fast approaching. Hate the thought if having it done too. The vision in my left eye is definitely worsening so its creeping up on me too
Good luck with it and let know how it is. I'm sure you'll be posting up on here how straight forward it was and how you had nothing to worry about!

  19. Don't worry my old aunt had hers done when she was 99'
    Steve,

  20. So i've had one eye modified and going for the set tomorrow. Must say, I didn't realise how bad they both were, how colour was affected as well as blurryness etc. At the moment if I cover my bad eye I see realism. If I cover my good, new eye, I get inpressionism.
Realists and impressionists never did see eye to eye
