i'm not good at working out stuff like this, so before i gut the front room and fail, will this fit? i have 9 boxes of flooring 1230x225x10mm 6 lengths per box each box says M2 per box 1.66 this is a crude pic of my front room, will it fit and if so which direction is best to lay it? and i can't get any more which is why i'm asking. thanks in advance.
The m2 of your room is 15.12, you have 14.94m2 of flooring. This is very tight. You do not give the dims of the fireplace, this is your only hope. Even then, that doesn't allow for any mistakes. It shouldn't matter which way you lay it but I would do it across the fireplace, not into it.
The convention for floorboards is that they are laid at right angles to the fireplace. In other words along the 442 dimension and not the 342 dimension as shown by the lines on your piece of paper. The boards are then simply cut to length where they butt up to the hearth.
yeah i just saw a video on you tube saying lay it that way, i'm just worried that i haven't got enough - which i doubt i have unless i'm very good at woodwork - which i ain't.........
As someone with 35 years of second fix carpentry behind them, my advice would be that the most important thing to remember is to double check everything measurement wise before committing to cutting the boards. Take your time, don't have any distractions going on around you whilst working and keep calm.
it's not that part i'm worried about dude, the 9 boxes only is it - this isn't stuff that can be bought in a shop and once the carpet is up and the room empty and i find i'm a foot short i'm in the doo doo
no, from a site clearance at work, top end stuff used by a high end retailer but not the type of stuff you can buy.
Your fireplace is .9 m2 Your room is 15.12m2, your fireplace is 0.9m2, therefore you need 14.22m2 of flooring. You have 14.94m2 of flooring. In theory, you have enough to do the lot with a little bit left over, but it is very tight.
ok thanks, i guess it depends on how the cuts go - oh what i'd give for another box, i suppose i'll just have to see how i go and hide the mistakes under the sofa then....ahahahahaha
You should have enough if you use any little off-cut. You'll need to measure thrice cut once if you don't want to balls it up. A floor fitter would certainly order more than you have for that size room to allow for wastage.
i know, but it was 9 free boxes or nothing..... if i don't use it it's no biggie but it was free and my capret is old and i can't afford to renew so thisswas a good option - until i realised it's tighter than a gnats chuff.
My ex wife once stained the hall floor. She decided she didn't like it much and so when she got to the front door mat (that she was standing on) she just stained around it and left it at that!!!
