Foam Engine surround

  1. This may be a dumb question but is it best to fit the foam engine seal before or after you fit the engine? i'm worried about damaging my nice new one when installing engine! thanks.

after, once all is in, shiny curved side down

  3. you need to pop the engine in then pop the seal on its dead easy takes about 10 mins at the most ;)

You fit it after the engine has been installed. And they go shiny side down leaving the foam on top.

  9. I've just replaced mine. Quite straight forward, if a little fiddly around the back (or is that front?)
I wish my engine bay was as clean as that one though.

  10. my seal is half rubbber up round the back of the fan housing, then new foam, put in upside down in the front half.lol. i thought the nice shiny side had to be seen, was a shame not to. lol.

the "shiny" is so it don't soak up water innit?

I put my last one in shiny side up but it never really sits properly and looked all kinked and untidy. Far nicer anyway with the foam on top.

  13. Is the 1600 and the 2 litre foam seal the same?

  18. Haha I never knew it went in that way!! Oh well it will look like I have fitted a new one when the engine goes back in. Result!!

  19. i can take a pic of the rubber one if u like. it looks quite nice. looks like this (< and the < part is slightly flatter than that.

when i installed the new foam one, i found it difficult to slide up and round the back of the fan so i took the good half of the old rubber one i removed and used fairy liquid to lube it so i could slide it round the back of the fan. I only had half what i needed so used half foam for the front. I think i will turn it the right way up cos it has rippled slightly. Mind you its been in there for 4 months now.
