  1. school dinners in France are obligatory ,no packup`s here...

I remember getting free school dinners ,it was 5 tickets worth 25p each ,I used to sell them for a £1 and go down the shop a buy chocolate chewy nuts instead ,when i reached 16 it was cider...:burp:

  2. I used to love school dinner - at junior school we were sat on tables of 8 with 2 of the kids being designated as servers - the real prize in any dinner was the skin of the custard (weirdly the skin of the gravy was less highly desired)

At senior school (private boarding school albeit I was a mere day boy) the chef was excellent - the meals were basic (similar to the ones Barnet mentioned) but they were very well prepared and cooked. It was probably much simpler back then - with a meat option or veggie option (all vegetables were common to both) and one pudding choice - no quarter was given for myriad religions, ideologies, allergies, intolerances and sheer bloody mindedness

  3. It was a great day when free school milk was stopped - it was usually frozen or off

sounds like your school had a dodgy milkman, our milk was always fresh and cold.

  8. Likewise, and I can honestly say I've never eaten food of the same quality since .

  9. our school dinners used to be really nice actually , we had roast beef n yorkshire pud n crispy roasties n real chicken n steak n kidney pie the big oblong tray ones that were cut in about 20 squares but were stuffed with meat n the dumplings were yum , n coconut n rasberry jam tart nspotted dick n treacle sponge n tart n nice custard ,never the same thing on same day . The cook was a rather large lady and she liked to feed us up . It was 2shillings a week , 10p

Oh,and our canteen at school had really healthy options...but every one pretty much had chips as thats what they were used to at home...I blame the parents.
(i used to save my £1.00 a day and at the weekend, get my mate neil's sister to buy us cider and lager at the local offy, 'cos she had big tits and looked the oldest of us all.she was 15,she still got served though...;).Never went hungry though, another one of my mates used to give me his sandwhiches in exchange for some cider at the weekend...)

  14. I got extra house points when I was milk monitor for rinsing and wringing out the cloth well and wiping up after we'd finished. My proudest day :D And @steveagain - I resent being called 'seriously old' for remembering free school milk.

(and we all know who put an end to that...)o_O
