Genuine NOS Wing Mirrors

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Thermopile, Oct 22, 2013.

  1. Hi All,

Looking for some knowledge about identifying genuine wing mirrors. Found some on eBay which are claimed to be NOS with original Hagus stamp and part number.

However, a Google search with the part number brings up the cheap or modern options.

Not sure if this is as they have reused said original part number or because its a scam!?

    Any info appreciated.

  2. Apparently the pants ones have a shorter threaded piece that screws into the captive nut in the door meaning that the plastic washer cannot be fitted on outside of door panel. Only problem is this piece is detachable and could be swapped from og to copy mirrors.

Any ideas on measurements for of threaded piece vs copy?

    Cheers

  5. Awesome,

Looks like next weeks disposable income gone then! Can't bear my current cheap ones constantly rattling to a new position which reflects only the sky!...

    Cheers

  6. I bought a 'top quality' one recently and the thread was too short even without the plastic washer

  7. If you're feeling flush the week after, I wouldn't say no to a set!! ;)

  8. How tedious!

Do you have the thread measurement for them? I think I'll measure my existing ones also and report back!..

  11. I have genuine hagus ones on my bus
If you ask @Paul Weeding nicely he may measure the thread length for you

Ill get laughed at for this but id be happy to swap my mirrors for a pair of the bigger black mirrors as fitted to brazzilian bays

The thread length is the same. What's different is the bit the thread's cut on. On OG mirrors it is thinner away from the van so you can back the nut off "over" the thin bit, on the repro's it isn't thinner, so at the end of the thread the nut jams up and won't back off enough.

So measuring isn't the quite answer.

Ive just measured an old pair (don't know if they are genuine or repro) and the total thread length is 20mm with 10mm showing clear of the nut (no plastic collar fitted).

If genuine, you can back off the nut until it hits the upright or comes right off the thread...

  17. Yup, that was the problem I had.

  18. Sweet,

I will put that to them, although overall consensus seems that they are a goer, any advances based on the info from the eBay listing?

    Cheers

  19. Thanks,

The threads of the ones in question (see initial ink in first posting) look pretty close to the upright, when you say they can come off the thread I presume you mean towards the opposite end to the upright?

    Cheers

If you have some that won't reach the nut, count the clear threads available on yours and check against the very good photos on the ad?
