Seemed strange not starting day with a mug. I'll get some decaf later today.
    Cheers for sharing experiences :)

  2. Not a coffee fan but I drink about 10 mugs of tea a day... Can't think of life without a brew. Stay strong Pete :)

    It's drink time

    Nice bottle of oasis :(

  5. i know it's difficult stopping (it'll get easier after the headaches) but not sure that giving up caffeine to replace with sugary drinks is such a good idea. try fruit teas - warmth of your old cuppa and sweetness of a bottle of pop. :)

  6. Amphetamines might work but will give you one hell of a thirst. Zed might have had the right approach there!

  9. Good luck with giving up. I always say it's just the taste of coffee I like, rather than the effect, though I have yet to try decaff to try to prove this to myself!

I had a bad experience with Red Bull once and even the smell of it makes me feel a bit queasy now. Though, thinking about it, it might have been the vodka in it that actually caused the problem ...

I knocked 99% of red bull on head last year just because I was drinking too much, about 4 cans a day and god knows how much coffee

  12. I'd imagine have to moderate this place isn't good for stress levels either.

What you need is a weekend away camping with the rest of us, can I recommend Elemental on the 5th-7th April.

Just had a mega strong espresso. Magic. :D
But I'm good I am. ;) that's it for caffiene until the same time tomorrow.
I had to knock it right on the head 10 years ago like yourself HF, but after a few years of calm I can enjoy the one cup a day. It seems obvious now, but this is what I should have been doing all along!

  17. The problem with most coffee buzzes is the quantity of coffee drunk over the course of a day rather than the strength. I gave up drinking instant coffee years ago and boom the constant headaches I had been experiencing vanished. Now I only drink the real stuff and can't abide the taste of instant. I take a thermos of the the good stuff to work (about half a litre) and as it's a 'sippy bottle' (leak proof travel one) type it stays really hot all day so you drink less. I know if I've had a bad day when I get home and it's empty. So I'm drinking less coffee but enjoying it more.

  18. girlfriend suffers from super ventricular tachycardia which sends her heart rate up to high 170's and it started when she first was pregnant with our little one, her HR would shoot up when she has alcohol, coffee, any caffeine based things, and she has beta blockers which regulate it back down,

From what i can remember, SVT is when the electrical impulses in the heart fire and then get stuck and fire round in circles, rather than firing down the centre of the heart and burn themselves out as they should.

Did you doc mention anything about SVT?

  19. I used to have a fridge under my desk full of Red Bull, and I needed the caffeine kick to get started & through the day. Then my insides developed an intolerance to any form of caffeine, and I started getting violent bouts of sickness - 4 hours clamped to a toilet! After various tests with no clear results, I cut out all caffeine and have been fine ever since. Yes, I miss the ability to have tea/Red Bull to wake me up in the morning after the baby has kept me awake all night, but generally I feel more balanced throughout the day, without the caffeine crash I used to get. I find the best replacement for it if I'm in desperate need it a good fruit smoothie. But usually I just resort to chocolate (I know, not ideal, but it's quick and easy to get hold of!)

Good luck mate, it's not the end of the world :)

  20. Good idea. I had the headaches too when I decided to go cold turkey one Xmas - but could not cope with the headache, ironically I got a bad flu that Xmas so was on paracetamol for a week or so anyway, by which time the headaches stopped (or I could not feel them) and I never looked back! Now I get a headache if I have a strong coffeem which is very seldom, as I avoid them, decaffe Cappuccinos all the way for me, and come on its mainly frothy water/milk anyway you hardly get any actual coffee in it! Good luck it really is worth it, be careful some of those all in one Flu remedies have caffeine in the pills though!
