Anyone else remember the book "A Hitch Hikers Guide to Europe"?

It really was the bible when I hitched in Europe back in the 70's

  5. My dad used to work delivering cars and would hitch from job to job with his trade plates. If I ever see anyone with plates looking for a lift, then I will pick them up, just haven't seen anyone with plates for years.

  6. I would not recommend picking up a hitchhiker who is waving a hatchet, but if you must do so I hope it turns out to be Kai.

  7. I used to hitch all over the country - mainly variations of Leeds/Swansea/London

    I haven't seen a hitchhiker for years

  8. Head down the M5 around Bristol in the summer esp around festival time.. Sometimes you can see a queue of the waiting!

At Cardiff docks one early morning the weighbridge man asked me if i could take 3 friends of his back to Newport ( i was in a truck ) , he said they had to be at work for 8am so i agreed , 3 lady's of the night promptly appeared fresh after a night on a boat with the sailors and piled in , after a while they asked if they could change into their work clothes in my bunk , of course i said yes and they promptly changed into a well known supermarkets uniform and i got a proper eyeful -i dropped them at the well known supermarket carpark and have never looked at a checkout lady the same since .

Picked a chap up in Winchester who turned out to be a German tourist on hitchhiking tour of the uk , he said he was hungry so i got a great big pork pie out of the fridge and gave him a slice - he ate the lot before i dropped him off at Oxford , some time later he wrote to my company and sent me £5 in the post , nice chap him .

  12. Some of my best ever memories are when I was 17 and got a series of lifts from Calais to Brindisi (trying to get to Corfu...never made it) An American who put me up in Rome for 4 days and an Italian who kept putting his hand on my knee. Happy days.

  13. I've never wantonly hitched, had good people pulling over and giving me a lift when I've been pushing my motorbike along the hard shoulder a few times :)

I have and would pick up hitchhikers if their vibe is good, a friend and myself picked up one in the midlands once, my friend used to grow some fine herbs and offered the dude some, he accepted ........suddenly he was in space and we dropped him off at a village we thought he mumbled. He got out as if he had just landed on the moon:oops: , you don't see many anymore.

  14. i hitch hiked in usa - my two mates and i got in a pick up with a guy who then locked the doors - took a 12" knife from him glove box holding it across our throats and said 'dont try anything funny' .... needless to say we didn't and everyone smiled and way happy ....

    true story
