Dragged this back out again as I have seen one that looks a lot like mine. It’s an E.H. Holden station wagon

  5. Mark 1 Polo in Radioactive Reddy Orange. It'd splutter and die, lift the bonnet, randomly wiggle some wires and it'd run good for a couple of weeks, then repeat. The boot shelf would occasionally collapse when one of our dachshunds would get on it for a better view. But seeing as it only folded enough to drop the hound into the boot,it'd spring back up into place as if nothing had happened. This led to a few perplexing moments as to where's the dog gone and or how did you get in there? Until I spotted happening in the rear view mirror. When I sold it to a mate it turned out the driver's seat was made up of hardboard and a couple of newspapers. Had no idea, didn't sit in any of the other much comfier seats until he had it.

More on that Marina. For a while I had no starter motor because the ring gear had popped off the flywheel (it used to bounce loudly off the oil pump and jam on enough to start the engine , then fall off and make awful banging noises for a bit , so I painfully hacksawed through it and chucked it away) , but I was fit enough to push start it single handed on a level road, or roll it if it was on a hill.
When all the coolant hoses split one freezing night, I drove it about 80 miles with no coolant. Next day, went into Halfords and all the Unipart hoses were in stock.

  13. Mk1 cortina in probably the same dark green as @snotty Corsair. It had the 1200 three main bearing engine which after I had hammered it around for a few months smoked like a trooper. ripped that out and dropped a 1500GT engine which I had refurbished in, to me it went like ..... off a shovel.

  14. I think the Corsair was based on the Cortina chassis, just a bit more "upmarket".

  16. Oi! My 2000E was super-duper.

  17. 2CV The seats unbolted easily and the floor was flat so it converted into a camper. We were having a little barbecue in the south of France when we were told to go away as it was a fire hazard. Rather than put it out we took it away in the car and melted the plastic on the door. What you do when you're 18.
