Is my front beam beyond repair?

  1. Here's some pics of the hole I poked ....

    Here's the other side

Heavily corroded not sure that a patch could be welded... Any thoughts cheers

Can be fixed of course. shielsy and paradox have done it. If you have more money than time replace? ie worth doing if you're stretched as it'll only cost your time.
There should be a drain at the bottom which gets blocked. You'll have to do something a little more substantial than patching it, though patching would get through MOT I expect as they're not allowed to test it/hit it etc, just look.

  6. What gauge steel did you use... I am tempted to take a trip to Maidstone :)

As it is, it's arguably toast anyway. I'd have a very good look and bash at it before wasting any time on it nothing to loose doing that.
I remember seeing pics on here where someones swivel pin housing had torn off and crumpled up, but it and the rest of the beam looked perfect on the outside.

  8. Thanks Zed - I guess it's easy enough to switch my swivel pin bits onto another beam (if the rusty stuff lets me)

And everything else including the springs. Bare beams are cheapest.

I fixed mine. Not quite as bad as yours. Used 2mm steel. But I know that at some point I'll need to replace it when I ever get to use it that is !

Bear in mind shielsy is like the Irish equivalent of the a team. I think he might even wear the feather earrings like ba ;)
