I could but for over £1000 why should I?
I'll get in touch with the man myself when I get around to it - for all we know he'd happily provide a kit with the cable speed sensor. :)

Having to even consider that seems ridiculous to me when reverting to a simple Hall sensor to provide a speed signal would avoid the potential problem with GPS.

I agree to making an improvement if it is better or cheaper but is GPS better or cheaper than a Hall sensor? My guess is that the motor/gear and ECU that Neil buys now comes with GPS, like it or not. But it would be nice if he’d say so instead of evading the question.

Alternatively, exercise you consumer rights and just don't buy it.

Not sure why you have the hump with me over this but sure, that's exactly what I will do.

Persevere, if Neil realises he’s losing orders and he has any sense, he’ll supply what the customer wants to buy, whether he considers GPS to be an improvement or not.

Neil will do the non GPS version: -

I can but I need to charge £100 plus vat extra. The wiring loom will have to be hand made, the speed sensor are not in stock, and I have to alter the and recalibrate the torque sensor.

Small parcel in the post. Serious bit of kit and looking forward to fitting it.

    Looks very pretty!!
Looking at the far right kind of forked piece... does it have any grooves inside it at all or just it just rely on the bolt going through the splined shaft indentation ?

My 2 penny worth. without going into the gps v whatever argument. The clue is in the product name “ Litesteer “ it does not turn your van into an autonomous death trap…..it assists. You still have to turn the wheel , if it fails and you are stationary …a bit ( lot ) harder. If you are moving , then less.
Frankly I am surprised at the opposition to this fabulous option.
Can I suggest that if you have electronic ignition ,then you may keep old points etc as a back up. With this , if it fails you don’t need to do anything apart from curse.
I wonder how many of the anti squad have actually tried the product, gps or otherwise.

It’s a splined U/J that replaces the flexible coupling.

  13. Im watching with interest too but as its something I might look at at some point but what Im reading into the discussion is that there's some concern over GPS enabling and some would prefer the older speedo driven signal to the ECU. Im not perceiving much "nay-saying" just some toing and fro-ing on that subject!

Yes I can understand that and I have the older speedo version. Even given the possible loss of gps signal I’d still go for it, unless I drove or intended to drive mainly in an area prone to signal loss… ( even then I’d still have it :) )

Could be I have a gps garmin watch and pretty much know when this has disconnected when I've been on trips. Maybe dont assume you know what I'm thinking in future mate.
I've made my own choice based on my experience... other choices and experiences are available.

Obviously can't see much, but having watched the installation video and read the instructions one thing I note is that despite his emphasis on the need for extra floor fixings because of the torque transmitted to them there looks to be just 2 holes to use the original small fixings which were not intended to take any torque.

Reading between the lines I reckon what started as a small business with the owner doing everything has developed to the point he's the designer and subs out all the manufacture, hence the quite large (doubling? tripling?) of the price over the past few years. Nothing wrong with that of course, just an observation.

To be honest, for the time being at least I'm out. And for the record I have driven a litesteer bus and it was fantastic to drive - transforming - but I'm going to put the money into improving my engine.

Rather aggressive and unnecessary, also I don’t have prickly mates.

Unless they have changed, there are six holes attaching it to the floor.

  20. I thought the flexible coupling had the purpose of deforming during a front end crash if your body hits the steering wheel
The bracket bolted to the air box and dashboard is supposed to collapse in some way I thought.
