M6 Toll road

  1. It's proper name is the 'Midland Expressway'. When it first opened it earned the nickname 'Midland Speedway' because of all the test pilots in their fast cars giving it large.

I laughed my head off the first time I saw an unmarked cop car on the M6 Toll pulling some flash git over in his high speed cockwagen - for a while everyone thought it didn't have any police patrols on it.

  2. Anything that helps bypass Birmingham is gotta be worth £4 at least.

  4. HAHA no not in a camper when in the car coming up from Cornwall. And in fact it's the outside 2 lanes that go onto the toll and nearside 2 that carry on to the M42.

But I have been in the outside lane in a camper usually when a lorry is trying to over take another lorry going 1mph slower! then me in the van going 2mph faster. :p

  5. We used it to go to Camperjam saves the long grind round Brum - not going to CJ this year so saved a few quid already!

  6. I wonder why after last year!!

  7. Never used it as rarely go South on the M6 ,times I have I have set off at times to avoid congestion round Brum ,never had an issue.
£10 though for a bay each way though
Problem is if they privatise it and lower the price they'l start selling off other roads you just know it ,infact what actually does the government run these days? Whats the point of them?

Has anyone checked that a Bay Camper is charged £10?

When we used to take work vans over the 7 crossing, you could put magnetic strips where the window apertures were and get charged the same as a Caravelle (as long as there were no other stickers on the van), so the same as a car.

I can understand panel vans getting a van charge but not a camper.

It's just the height over front axle isn't it? As bays don't have a bonnet the sensor thinks its a truck.

Maybe the manned booths are better then?

I think the sensors still tell them what to charge. Wouldn't want them to have to put any thought into their jobs!

  12. They didn't when it was first opened.;)
