No need. There aren't enough macs around to make it worth virus writers' while. I just run a scan every once in a while, clears out the tracking cookies from the web browser.
nothing but my brother tuts loudly at the stat of mine every now and then and does stuff to it which makes it run better. magic, i think.
Absolutley .... I went IMac about 4 years ago and it's superb, never ever given me any trouble, never locked up, never needed a restart etc... It just works......
My mate who works for Apple tells me I don't need an anti-virus app, however I did get a free one called iAntivirus and it apparently checks my mac for viruses, and as yet hasn't found any. Macs do seem to fill themselves with crap though (usually duplicate files I seem to find).
You don't. You just use it. The only thing I do is empty the downloads folder of downloaded files I don't need anymore and empty the trash every now and again. I've had my MacBook since September 2010 and I haven't had to defrag it's hard drive or reinstall the OS once.
Oh, but you'd do need to check for OS updates every once in a while. But it's nothing like as often as the windows update thing.
Whats the entry level Mac? My ageing Dell is becoming a pain to use. Using facebook is impossible on it and in the evening it's all painfully slow. I wouldn't mind a Mac for image manipulation as well so mabey not an entry level one? or so? sorry for the hi-jack. Jack says Hi
Depend what you want to use it for. Mac Air is ultra portable but small HD (it uses flash memory instead of a trad HD). Macbook Pro's are excellent and come in diferent screen sizes, processors etc. Even the cheapest ones are really good for pretty much anything. If you want a desktop then iMacs are the way to go obviously. Just get yourself to a Apple store and have a play. Mrs Bot is doing an art degree and uses Adobe Creative suite to do photoshop, animation etc. and it works fine on a 15" MacBook Pro.
