Mac users

  1. I used the very old Mac's when I did my Art Degree (late 90's) and was just getting the hang of them when it finished. Never could afford one after that but the wasted time on pc's, different windows systems and getting rid of viruses etc, well, should have known really.

  2. You don't.

  3. You do if, like me, you have set it to not bug you with notification of a new update. ;) years of using Microsoft products have scarred me for life and therefore I will update when I am ready, not when the computer decides to.*

*besides, sometimes apple's OS updates can be a little bit 'buggy' and therefore it's always best to let someone else update their mac first, then they can moan like hell at apple until a new update arrives. ;)

  4. Dont defrag solid state/flash drives theres no benefit and shortens the life of them

  5. Point taken. But I've never had a problem. And you do have the option not to update, so you can still do it when you are ready. Plus it only takes a couple of minutes at the most :)

Question is very easy to answer. No Dont use Anti Virus stuff you dont need it plus it does more harm than good.

  7. I picked up a refurbished mac boom with top spec of flea bay for £600. Came with guarantee too. Best way to get on the mac ladder

  8. Big Mac users in the Jesters Household - no anti virus - no probs ............ So far........

  9. You should 'repair permissions' regularly though.
    In finder
    Click 'go' at the top
    Click 'utilities'
    'Disc utility'
    Select your hard drive
    And then click 'repair permissions'
Go and make a cup of tea and when you get back your mac will be faster.
I always do it before and after updating software too.

  15. I tried this after reading this post, but am not convinced it did any good. I have had a couple of strange occurrences recently. Yesterday the mouse pointer started jumping to the corner of the screen by itself. Makes it very difficult to do anything. Thank god I have an iPad too :/

  16. Try downloading "onyx" - that will help to clean your mac - I have it on mine and works well! :)

  17. I try not to download anything that isn't Apple. Had problems on Windows computers in the past when downloading random stuff :(

  18. Non Apple stuff is usually fine.... Think of all the Apps for iPhone etcetera. :)

  19. But they are downloaded through the app store
