Rust oleum combi colour

  1. I have done my engine tins including the fan housing plus the whole engine bay in grey combi colour with no problems at all, I think the heat helped bake it )

  2. Just out of curiousty...whats the thinners for combi stove enamel?

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

If the combi stove enamal is like VHT exhaust paint, it appears to have cured, then when it gets hot goes soft while it cures properly.

  4. Grey suits an aircooled engine so well:thumbsup:

  5. I know you took a lot of time on your paradox, but mine had 2 coats with a brush, no wet sand and it still looks great.
Rustoleum combi colour is great, little but maybe 10% white spirit I used and it flowed on with a nice new paint brush like water, self levels and dries to touch quick.

I did my exhaust and heat exchangers in vht stove paint from a rattle can as well

Ok @paradox and @chrisselby rust oleum combi colour it is. I can't see that the tins will become hot enough to burn off enamel paint. I painted one piece last night and its already dried so I'm going for it. If it all falls off in 6 months time I'll know I made a mistake - but I've made those before.

  7. Go for it

I'll tell you if was a mistake in a couple of months you won't need to wait six!

Mines been ok for about 3 months so far so I can't see any issues :)

Just contemplating whether I can be arsed to do the whole van in the stuff I don't think I have the patience!

  8. ooooo is that a 911 /912 ?

  9. Eh?

  10. Ahh it's a 911 that one of Nigel's customers brought in for a service.
Nigel is the engine specialist who rebuild the engine, I just bolted on the easy bits!

That 911 sounded great although it was full of bodges

  11. That looks really good. How long did it take for the Combi colour to harden (that was the main problem I found with mine - it took an eternity for it to go off). The stuff I've got on my bodywork, once it had hardened, has lasted pretty well. I would imagine the heat will help.

PS Another fellow with a velocity ring - I must get round to fitting mine!

  12. Not long for it to recoat, I would coat some bits one night, then they would be ready for a second the next evening.

I just used some grey combi colour to coat some electric gate motor brackets as the galv coat had rusted (in newquay next to the beach) and I have them 3 coats with a day in between, gone of rock hard now after day 5 and that was neat

I've just spent the whole afternoon putting the first coat on every engine tin in the world, well it felt like every tin in the world! Who knew there were that many tins on a VW engine? Also who knew that the cylinder number and firing order were embossed on them as well?

I just got a bit carried away, the bench wasn't the worst, but the vet said Chloe the chocolate labrador's coat will eventually shed and she'll regain her brown colouring again.

And no @paradox Chloe has refused to be photographed till all the red has gone.

  19. Dont forget to key the surface before the second coat bob
Red scotch pads are ideal for this if your not as ocd as me about the finish

Ok will do mate. No I'm definitely not going for your standards on my tins. I admire your determination and attention to detail but I just want mine looking better than when I started and back on the bus.
