Two coats with flatting inbetween should do you then maybe three if you used thinners

Do you like the smell as its drying?

I love the smell it reminds me of the painted during the summer holidays cast iron radiators at school
When the heating got turned on in autumn the paint would start to cure properly and give that distinctive smell
It also reminds me of the ruler over the back of my knuckles for melting crayons on the radiators instead of paying attention in class

 

Remember snotty you must paint your ring shiny red
It adds ten bhp you know

 

I'll stick with black. A red ring makes my eyes water
