  3. That’s nice (and nice blue). Did you use a foam roller?

Yeah foam roller, found not thinning it gets a better finish, brush paint gets a very nice finish, after flatting I would say it could be as good as a spray job, it’s my mates van and he just wants to drive it so it will look fairly good

Just about to buy a tin of Rustoleum. There seem to be a few types. Found a supplier (Zoro) on fleabay who sell Rust-Oleum 7392 Combicolor White Metal Paint - 2.5Ltr for £31.00 delivered. Given that Brewers charge £55, is this the right one?

Last daft question. Do you need to key the surface before painting? I'm going to be doing the floor inside and under the bus too. Hopefully 2.5ltrs will do it.

  7. In my experience, it will stick to smooth surfaces, but best to give everything a rub over with green Scotchbrite to take the shine off. Then degrease with panel wipe or even white spirit.

Thanks Snotty. Is that link I posted the right paint?

  9. Like all paint work it’s 90% prep
Degrease, key, and etch prime over bare metal

Anything less and it’s not going to be as good or last as long

  10. Yep, Combi-Color. I believe it's still enamel based.

As encouragement, I've just been lying under my van (MOT time), and the Rusto I slopped on under my front valence is still in great shape and rock hard, even after ten years. I wasn't too careful prepping (some was put straight over brushed surface rust), and it's fine. Great stuff.

Cheers for that. I'll get it ordered :)

  12. Headlight bowl given a bit of a freshen-up with Rusto last year. Great for the engine compartment as well.

Avenue coatings will they colour match the rustoleum?
Mines a shade of green I can't seem to match up to a VW paint code.

Good colour match. Did you get it mixed or is that a standard colour?

  15. If you can get a RAL colour card against it..they can mix to that reference or give them a ring..01753 686888 ..i think

  16. The tractor enamel I use is made by the exact same place that make rustoleum in the uk
    Tor coatings

I wonder what the chances are that it’s exactly the same paint

Ok so I lied. Another daft question. Did you just use squares of scotchbrite and do it by hand or the drill version. What's the best grade to use? I'll try and make that the last one - honest ;)

  18. Just squares, by hand. Cheap enough. Buy some maroon, green and grey (the finest - good for polishing your crank ).

The Rusto I had mixed to L90D and L63H by Avenue: they're used to doing old bus colours. That was ten years ago. The paint's still useable, if you splosh a bit of white spirit in it.

  19. I believe they can (they've got a colour-matching fandango), but they'll need a part of your bus to match to. Worth giving them a call. They're well used to old, rusting busses :)
