Why just why would someone do this https://news.sky.com/story/amp/syca...us-tree-cut-down-is-released-on-bail-12972110
I reckon it’s a statement from some group or another…. Something along the lines of ‘there’s a hundred thousand million acres of rainforest destroyed every second and no-one bats an eyelid…. Let’s cut down this one single old tree and see what happens….’
I suppose it’s a possibility Isn’t the renewable wood burning power station fed with hardwood pellets from abroad?
Some 16 year old apparently https://www.smh.com.au/world/europe...iberate-act-of-vandalism-20230929-p5e8k8.html
A tree surgeon has commented, although he condemned the 16 year old for felling the tree, he also says it may be a good thing as the tree is far from dead. He says Sycamores like to be trimmed right back as they come back stronger and will regrow very quickly. Still, the 16 year old needs slapping..
Knowing a bit about cutting down trees - the press banging on about it was an 'expert' - it certainly was not. It was someone whose researched the correct technique on youtube then carried it out badly - i.e. they notched it but badly aligned it and they put the cross cut in the wrong place. Whoever it was - what a petty end of the bell.
Sycamore’s are stubborn buggers but it won’t regrow the same with a single stem It will grow back more bush like. Also it wouldn’t have been dormant yet so may not recover
Possibly, I'm no tree expert other than they are good to have around. The guy talking seemed to make sense! I guess we have to wait and see.
when you cut a broadleaf tree in winter once the sap has gone back down into the roots The next spring it will produce lots of little stems all reaching for the light. It’s an old way of managing woodland And the resulting straight coppice rods are cut a few years later These were traditionally used for many things like hurdles, fencing,Bessom brooms etc etc Anything that was too short to use or misshapen was burnt in special burners to make charcoal.
That was my first thought ... Anyone got his contact details? I'm looking for a Sycamore specialist: Lovely tree, been "pollarded" once before in its very long life ... would be nice if they lifted the TPO for another go as it's a proper monster shedder of leaves and seedlings
You got two weeks off soon? Its belongs to one of our neighbours ... She wants it gone, he doesn't and there's the TPO beurocracy to do as well. Good shade in the Summer tbf.
Unfortunately for you, pretty busy at the moment. Unprecedented weather at the moment. It’s all growing again after being so late. Can’t see the leaves falling off for a while now…
whats left of the tree will make Gallows to hang it little B@@@@@@! but theres no way a 16 year old did that.
