  1. Following on from another post ,where it was mentioned re "tinwear between the barrels" I had a look at my own set up and ,assuming all bays (early 70"s)have to or are recommended to have tinwear between the barrels (mine do not) and JC have what looks like parts I am missing ,what say you guys ,buy and fit ?12,000 cliks so far (me clutching at straws ,I know)according to JC "how to fit " its pushrod tubes off ..... advise please

  2. yes it's one of the most important bits

  3. Ta m.b.>and am I right /JC right ?pop the tubes and all that entailes and fit ?appreciate the info .(bitter/sweet)

  4. Heads off too dude... you can't just "pop" the tubes out of a type 1!!

And yes they do need to be fitted otherwise you can warp your barrels and boil the oil

  5. So paul, engine out ?yeah(hoping your will say no and mean it ...but.....)

  6. Engine out...

I had to do one recently where they were fitted, but backwards so they were hanging down, and not clipped up tight to the cylinders o_O

  7. Cheers mate

  8. hey fella, just so you know, i have a spares of these tinware bits of an old engine if you need them...

Just another bit that was missing from mine, that I've now realised is still missing!

    That important?

  10. its such a *******er, either Vege done a crappo rebuild or po done a crappo rebuild(me feeling stabby re this latest addition to "things must do" list !>like "oh look at all these left over bits I"ve got ,think they are important ,like?">>>stabby >stabby >stabby !!!

  11. I'd doubt whether it was Vege...

You do need the tin. It acts as an air dam between the pairs of cylinders. If it's not there, cooling air shoots right past them and out the back. If they're not installed, you'll cook your engine. Engine out, cylinder heads off to replace, I'm afraid :(

  12. ARRRRRRRG !

  13. Aaaargh, indeed :(. How do you know they're not there?

  14. Well I was underneath having a look round ,checking bits ,like tightness of c.v.retaining bolts ,and I think it may have been Zed(but do not quote me on that) who answered a.n.other post re tinwear ,and that came up/into the post answer ,and that was in my napper , so, whilst underneath I glanced up(in the little space between the tinwear that is in actual fact fitted) at said location of said tin and hells bells ,none .not a bit >gone >never fitted >@hailfrank of rebuild>crap job .call it whatever, I tell you what mate , I am bloody spitting teeth re this one ,an engine pull job >>>jeffing great!someone just could not be bothered !

  15. Before you have a heart attack, quickly make sure. On the RHS, unscrew the panel that covers the thermostat - should give you a better view of what's between the cylinders.

It is easy to forget them if you're busy putting the engine together. Unfortunately, as above, they're pretty essential.

  16. ok ,I will ,now going to lie in very dark room wiv pack of say, frozen pees on my forehead ,and wonder why my now(x) beautiful x wife divorced me .

  17. Was it because you layed around with frozen pee on your head ;)?

Have another look, it's rare this is missing. Above the pushrod tubes, below the cylinders, not the heads.

  19. OH? above pushrods ? me thought below as in "blanking "the tubes , note to self, remove pees(from my head) ,and recheck, will report back. And just out of total wondering ;how can any piece of tin in that location be that important? I mean they, in design stage, surely did not have the means to flow/lab test the system ?

  20. Above the pushrod tubes. I suspect you're just missing the bit(s) of tinware below them, yes?

As Zed said, it's unlikely the between-cylinder tins would be missing. Your engine would've gone south by now.
