....... is indeed the question, especially as after thinking about it for a while, I've ended up with a complete Imprezza turbo car with a bit of body damage, but with a hybrid turbo 300bhp plus engine and obviously all the gubbings to go with it. A lot of chopping to fit a Turbo engine in a bus? it's a 1998 car, but hey wouldn't that be a bag of fun....... or common sense ask Paul Weeding to rebuild my current 2.0i engine, which even though slightly noisy will reach 90mph quite happily!
Have been contemplating the subaru route especially with my auto box it'd be a good choice, 2 or 2.5 non turbo would be nice. Only thing is most places want between £3500 and £5000 to do the conversion! Lots of wonga!
So I've heard Lardy! A 2.2 non Turbo is prob the way to go really, but this just sounds a bit more fun, so if I can just scrape up a spare 3k or so......
You'll have real issues with cooling if you use the turbo...and as they say...the doner car is the easy part!
Some of the work Fellows Speedshop have done looks mighty fine - not had the opportunity to see one running/being driven though
Mmmnnnn a lot to scrape fella! Girlfriends dad bought a legacy and then bought the adaptor kit. He moved unit, didn't have the space and had to sell his van. He sold the subaru minus the engine and ecu but didn't take out the wiring or ignition so it was a nightmare. He's looking to do the same thing again obviously knowing what he knows now should work alright but it seems a lot of work to be honest. I'd scrimp and save to have it all done in one by people who know what they're doing, atleast you have some comeback then?
Add £2k - £3.5k and you're closer to a real figure! Turbo is huge overkill and you'll probably fry it. The 2.5 non turbo goes like Marmite off a shovel!
Yes, a quick scout round looks like 4k if you supply your own engine, PLUS all the extras your bound to want like proper heating, decent exhaust, a bit of detailing, so 5 to 6 seems more like it. Or back to Plan B (though how a young, and no doubt talented singer is going to help....), part out the Imprezza and use the cash for a slightly 'built' 2.0i hmmm, where is that conundrum cap?
having visited fellowes and ridden in Moons van which is fitted with one i can confirm they do a good job, that said it's a lot of money so i'm out.
