Being left handed isn’t that uncommon, but it’s a condition not widely catered for; Lefthanders Day promotes consideration for left handed people by promoting left handed activities, competitive challenges and general awareness raising. Any Lefthanders on here ? Has it caused you problems in life ?
Me. I am a little odd though. Eg In cricket, I bowl right handed but throw left handed. I am very ambidextrous in most things but power comes from the left. I most recently felt discriminated against on the beach. Those whistling throwing rockets have fins and grooves for a right handed thrower. When launched from the left hand they don't spin and just drop to the floor :-( These are big concerns I know, but discrimination comes in many forms!!!
I'm a leftie (Sharon not Sarah) I'm a little odd too as I play tennis, badminton etc right handed (but I do serve left handed - which is even more strange!!!!)
No, I'm perfectly normal. However I play golf & cricket left handed ...... golf I play badly & cricket I haven't played since school. I used to play squash & discovered I could play with either hand ( waits for smutty comments )
I was waiting for the punch line then realised this was a serious post. Personally I think lefties are the devils spawn and should have their left hand tied behind their back at birth in order to 'reeducate' them
i'm a leftie i did have problems with it at school, i went to a all boys school and got caned across the hand everytime the head saw me.for a long time i could write, draw and paint both handed. at senior school art teachers thought it was funny to see me painting with both hands at the same time.. dont think i could do it now!! we do use our brains differently to them nnnormal poeple
I used to play badminton against two opponents with a racquet in each hand! Or when playing singles I used to swap hands during a rally. Left for power, right for drop shots and precision.
I use scissors in my right hand despite being left handed. My gran gave up trying to teach me to knit when I was young as she said I was Cack handed, charming!!!
I'm a leftie and proud! We're a constantly wronged by the rightist establishment. 'Historically, the left side, and subsequently left-handedness, was considered negative in many cultures. The Latin word sinistra originally meant "left" but took on meanings of "evil" or "unlucky" by the Classical Latin era, and this double meaning survives in European derivatives of Latin, and in the English word "sinister". Meanings gradually developed from use of these terms in the ancient languages. In many modern European languages, including English, the word for the direction "right" also means "correct" or "proper", and also stands for authority and justice. In most Slavic languages the root prav is used in words carrying meanings of correctness or justice.' Just read: http://blog.oup.com/2010/09/left-hand/
This is a great thread. I now have this image of poor unfortunate lefties trapped in a right handed world, persecuted for millennia for being different. Unable to open a tin of beans like normal people until the ring pull became the norm. I'm going to dedicate today to doing things with my left hand only to see how difficult all of these things really are and will report back later.
IT's NOT AN IMAGE...it's true. You righties just don't know how easy you have it. It's handism I tell you!
it would just be wrong for me not to be a lefty ! I am left handed, when I was younger I trained myself to write with both hands ( I can not spell the proper word and google is not helping !) I used to write backwards before that I have lost both skills !
Task one. Butter some toast. How the hell do you people manage? The serrations on the knife go the wrong way! Look at the state of this!
i was left handed but they made me write right handed at school, so i do loads of things left and right and none if them well, my dad was left handed and he's a grade a cock so i blame him for my predicament.
