Hi guys, I've had the insurance renewal for the crewcab through the post . I've updated all the relavent info for the modifications etc and the increase in premium for these. But regarding the valuation, due to the condition, originality, modifications and rarity I have been advised to obtain an independent valuation by an expert in this field. Question is ,does any body know of this person or a suitable individual who can value the vehicle with suitable credentials. Bearing in mind the valuation is a figure in which you can replace the vehicle almost exactly, and not just a sale figure. Any info greatly appreciated.
It's an individual vehicle that you know better than any "expert" Pick a realistic value and support it with info and pics, don't see how anybody else could claim to know it's value more than you do!
I'd ask the insurance company for the credentials they recognise and/or a list of same...no point going through all that effort if they then simply ignore it stating non qualified expert evaluaer.
What constitutes "suitable credentials" for assessing what is basically an old 1970s delivery van? You'd be better plucking a figure out of the air after checking with folk who are familiar with current market values, which is really the only measure. I think a lot of folk, because a van has cost them say £25k in restoration and parts, think it's worth £25k. It isn't.
I just sent photos ,Engine. ,front ,rear, sides and inside ,along with a price taken from a rough average on eBay sales
Get an agreed valuation policy, you submit lots of pics and you should mention any modification etc. and suggest your valuation figure. The insurers would get their underwriters to review your vehicle details and either they would accept your value, or may vary it slightly. Its a simple process, no point over cooking it and paying third parties to tell you what you already know.
The first time I had to do it, I was asked to get a valuation from a garage that worked on the VW vans. But haven't worked on my vehicle. So at a show I found an independent VW Repairer and asking for a valuation. He asked about the Vehicle, . I pointed at it across the field and he said it do a valuation on it charged me £25
I always ask for £28k, the insurance company tell me that the most they can value a bay like mine at is £20k and I simply agree to £20k.
Soz for late reply guys, been on a course this week and its been full on ! The company in question is carole nash and I'm aware that if you send 6 pictures in they will agree a value on those but THEY have asked for a private valuation ! because of the type of vehicle and the modifications etc. so hence my original question. Also without trying to sound aloof, but being sensible where would you find and purchase a RHD Crewcab pickup, un-welded , 70% original paint, NO rust, wearing it's history , up-graded modifications to the brake's and suspension etc etc. Remember an agreed valuation is if you had to replace that particular vehicle ! ......................................................................
Pretty much every 40+ bus is individual though, best you can do is work out what you'd have pay to get something similar
G, I'm with cherished & they asked for an independant valuation + 7 pics. when I asked them who could I get to do this for me, they told me any Classic VW garage should be able to do it so I will ask Dave if you can bring it to us one Saturday, if you want?
I like that way of doing things - it`s ridiculous asking for a valuation when they have no intention of paying that much out , so making a nonsense of the actual valuation floats my boat
There are a few things to this.... The insurance company want to know, in a total write off scenario, how much money to give you to stop you ugly crying...... Then there is such a thing as market value not bottom book price (there is no book on something so old), & sentimental value doesn't come in to it so someone may not pay more just because it has a couple more original switches than the rest of the cans they looked at. Also if the van has had no work done then that can't be measured & given a value like a van that cost £6k to buy & £14k to resto can be given the value of £20k.
I’m guessing they want it because you have put a very high value on a commercial vehicle ? I just sent carol nash 6 pics and they agreed 25k no issues what so ever ! What agreed value did you ask for ?
Strange ,because they asked for my opinion and i didn't go sky high on my valuation, people I know have valued their campervans at 25k to 35 k with no problems I said I thought it would be very difficult to replace so I said 25k to 30k , after all I want to protect my bus ! Maybe even carole nash are just not sure of this model ?
I just insured my 75 RHD crewie with Carole Nash earlier this month. It’s not as nice as yours Gona and I guesstimated a value of £8000. That was based on purchase price and the parts I’ve put into it. It lives outside on the drive and is secured by a chunky old wheel clamp and a home made ignition immobiliser. I have to submit 6 pics to get the agreed value. I haven’t done that yet as I’m waiting for DVLA to sort me out with a UK registration number first. I paid £115 fully comp. Stirlingmoz
Just tell them that you are in a classic vw club forum and everyone on here are experts and stick in your advised value ...and the vw garage guys said look no further for advice but The Late Bay Com .
Thats what I did...like selling a car....asking price and then the settling price....same thing start high and then come down you cannot go the other way round.
