Usually, when the fan comes on a lot, it could mean that you simply need to take the side of the comp of,and very carefully blow the dust out of it.This happened to an old one of mine once or twice and solved the prob as it was overheating.Unplug it first as you could short it out and wipe the hard drive. As for an update causing this,i dont know. What bored are you using and how much ram is there free,it could be that you simply may need to buy a new comp. as its just 'old and outdated...you know...like comparing a type 2 bay to a type 5 Business...

it's 3 years old in november, i won't take it to bits that's for sure.... no worries i'll just see what happens, @Silver your idea sounds sensible as it deffo was ok until the update and it hadn't moved since i turned it off the night before when it shut down and said "installing updates"

You could restore it to a point before the updates and see if it goes back to how it was before, if your worried about losing valuable new updates, create a new restore point yourself now and you can switch back again. If the fan really does bug you, restore to earlier date and wait for the next set of updates, it might be a bug that has been fixed by then.

I find that some of ITunes' add-on programmes make my laptop run hot. When doing ctrl-alt-del, go to processes and then sort by (click on the title) first memory, then CPU. You will see what programmes are using all of the power. If there are any that look odd, or dodgy, or are just taking up too much resource - Google the programme and see what other people are saying. Don't just end process as it could be something vital!

  13. Then stop moaning when your fan comes on when applying windows updates ,just means the processors working over time updating ,ffs

i didn't know what the fan did in relation to the processor, thanks for the kind explaination, some of us know engines, some know computers...... while the computer geeks played manic miner the normal guys were shagging girls.
