So I’ve got power. I’ve got fuel. It’s turning over but won’t fire? It’s been sat for a few months. There is 13odd Volts at the coil. Apart from that I’ve not got a clue. Help edit. It’s a 1.6 with twin carbs
I would leave it for a hour and try again sounds like its flooded to me but the experts will be along shortly. stop panicking.
you say you have power do you mean at the coil or have you checked for spark is it points or electronic ?
I put my multi meter on the coil and there is power. I have checked nothing else as I have no clue lol. Welding and bodging I can do. Electrics and engines are over my head lol it’s old school points
have you got a spare spark plug around if so pull one of your plug leads plug in the spare ground the side of the plug on the engine case somewhere you can see it and get someone to crank the engine see if you get a spark
Flick the points open and closed with a screwdriver while the ignition is on. If it sparks, take the air filters of and Chuck a teaspoon of fuel down the carbs, and try and start it
Yep. Just been to Inverness and back, but it’s stopped working again now. Got no one to crank it for me at the mo so I’ll do that in a bit when I tow my t4 to the garage.
When I haven't used mine for a few weeks - my starting procedure is :- Ignition on - gas pedal down once to set choke -turn engine a few turns - turn off ignition . Wait a few seconds . Then repeat this procedure. It usually starts after a couple of minutes of this. Note this is on a 1600 tp with mechanical fuel pump. It avoids flattening the battery - and gives time for fuel to reach the engine . Note that fuel older than about 6 months can have lost some of the inflammable bits by evaporation so a gallon can of fresh fuel may help. Holding the pedal down cuts out the choke.
